AWe took an earlier train to Biwa lake than the arranged time and surprisingly, Ms. Shino Sen was already waiting for us. She took us to a humble local shrine. With her story telling and a little surprise at the end, we started to make a connection with the life of the local farmers. The elderly farmer couple really opened their home for us. It is not a fancy farm house but it is a tidy and clean home reflective of generations of hard working farmers. Making Mochi instead of buying one in the shop is an entirely different experience - tiring, delicious and memorable. Then, a wonderful lunch was served. The fresh ingredients from their farm makes their version of sukiyaki rivals any restaurant with expensive ingredients. Mr and Mrs Kosaka are wonderful hosts who radiate their joy of simple life that we city folks are beginning to understand and appreciate. This is a well thought out personal tour packed with memories.
