Description

Escape the bustling urban jungle and cruise to Hong Kong's largest island, Lantau, on this full-day tour. Spend a day discovering the peaceful monasteries and old fishing communities, marvel at the world's largest seated outdoor bronze Buddha statue and enjoy a panoramic cable car ride.

Hop aboard the express ferry at the jetty, transporting you to historic Lantau Island via the Sulphur Channel. Breathe in the fresh sea air and take in scenic views of the outer islands and the South China Sea.

Upon arrival at Lantau Island, travel by coach to the ancient Po Lin Monastery. Be mesmerised by the intricate Chinese architectural designs, discover important Buddhist scriptures and see three bronze Buddha statues in the main hall representing his past, present and future lives. Next, climb the steps to the largest seated outdoor bronze Buddha in the world – Tian Tan Buddha. Take in sweeping views of the surrounding area atop this iconic statue's platform where he towers a staggering 34 metres (110 feet) above, with his right arm raised to bless all those who reach the top.

Break for a delicious vegetarian lunch at the monastery before passing Hong Kong's only tea plantation en route to the idyllic Tai O fishing village. Discover their unique way of living and see rows of stilt houses built along the shore. End your tour with a panoramic Ngong Ping cable car ride down to charming Tung Chung village where your transfer back to your hotel awaits you.

An excellent tour. Went to the local fishing village and saw the people at work and was a very nice little town. The sitting Buddha is a sight to behold. Such an imposing figure perched at the top of the mountain. Lunch was good although I’m not a vegetarian and there was a nice shopping area to buy souvenirs and grab a beer. Then did cable car back to mainland which was scary but a fantastic way of seeing the scenery. Our tour guide was extremely friendly and very knowledgeable. A tour well worth doing.

Definitely an unmissable tour, however, it was really rushed & we never got to spend enough time there. Our tour guide never waited for anyone & managed to lose 6 people. Also, the cable cars were on an annual scheduled maintenance repair, which meant we were unable to get on them. However, we were still charged the full amount with no reimbursement. I would recommend you going across by yourself without a tour, you’d get to spend more time there & it would then totally be worth the money.
