What you can expect
Spend a day tackling rainforest trails and rocky paths as you hike to the summit of Mount Warning, the dramatic peak that dominates the landscape of the Byron Bay hinterland. Take in sweeping views over the region, cool down in a freshwater pool and refuel over a tasty barbecue lunch.
After you’re picked up from your Byron Bay hotel, travel inland, listening as your knowledgeable guide describes the area’s unique geological features. As the distant, craggy peak of Mount Warning grows near, watch the surrounding terrain shift from neat farms to lush subtropical rainforests.
Your guide offers some tips and pointers for getting the most out of your climb and drops you at the trailhead, where you have 4 hours or so to trek up through dense forests and clamber over rock scrambles to the summit. From the top of the ancient caldera, take in a breathtaking panorama that stretches from the Byron Lighthouse to the ocean-front skyline of Surfers Paradise.
Head back down to the base and reward yourself with a refreshing dip in a pool. Your guide leads the way to your lunch site, where a delicious barbecue spread awaits. Tuck into tasty Aussie fare as you chat about your adventure and then grab a seat in the vehicle for the scenic drive back to town.
