Description

Travel back in time to the days of the Nazi occupation of Poland with a day trip into the Masuria region, home to the former Hitler headquarters known as Wolf's Lair. Explore the sprawling complex of bunkers.

From your hotel in Warsaw, set off for a scenic drive into the northern region of Masuria, an area famous for its 2,000 lakes. Together with its woods, lakes, and swamps, the region became the perfect place for Adolf Hitler to set up a hard-to-reach complex of bunkers spanning 600 acres (243 ha).

Upon arrival at the site, join your guide for a tour of the grounds, getting a chance to get close to derelict bunkers overgrown with moss. As you wander through the woods, listen to the fascinating history of the headquarters, which, despite its high-security zones, became the site of an assassination attempt on Hitler in 1944. Learn how the complex was destroyed and abandoned by the Nazis as the Soviet Red Army advanced the following year.

If you choose, opt for the private tour's VIP service.

My guide was on time, very personable and pleasant, spoke excellent English, was knowledgeable, interested in answering all my questions, made sure there were plenty of opportunities for food/bathroom, food options were traditional Polish, brought me to several interesting sights that made this an excellent experience.

A long day but well worth it. The guide was very friendly and good company on the drive up/back from Warsaw. Enjoyed the Polish countryside. The guide at the Wolf's Lair was very knwledgable but didn't over load you with details. well worthwhile, very interesting and I'd recommend it to those interested in history .
