Description

The magnificent Book of Kells is widely regarded as Ireland’s most valuable national treasure. Beat the crowds for early access to the Old Library in Trinity College to get an up-close look at this celebrated text. Then, tour Dublin Castle to gain insight into Irish history spanning 3 millennia.

Get the most out of your chance to see the precious 9th-century Book of Kells by beating the crowds and enjoying early entrance. Housed in the striking Old Library of Trinity College, the ancient illuminated manuscript is befitting of its distinguished surroundings. Admire the exquisite and intricate artwork that decorates each page as your guide explains its powerful symbolism and meaning.

Much of a city’s history can be told by the tales of its fortifications, and Ireland’s capital is no exception. On a tour of Dublin Castle’s exterior ramparts and walls, hear tales from the Celtic era through to the present day. Gaze upon the stone courtyard, the commanding Round Tower – the only remaining turret of the castle's original 4 – and the tranquil lawns of the Dubh Linn gardens.

Pay a visit to the oldest shopping centre in Europe – the Victorian George's Street Arcade – and take in the beautiful Georgian architecture and rococo details of the Powerscourt Centre. Complete your experience with a dose of Irish folk culture as you learn about the beloved tune behind the statue of Molly Malone – the city’s unofficial mascot.

Taking the tour of this library was one of my highlights of trip to Ireland. The Book of Kells is absolutely beautiful.

Our guide gave us the best tip for the 8:00 am early access tour--go straight to the last room of the exhibit first and get more time with the open pages of the Book of Kells before others enter, then back up to the displays. Pleasant and informative guide made for accessible history lesson. Cobblestones and two stories of stairs to navigate. I needed to leave after only seeing the Book of Kells and library which was no problem for the tour guide. I still got my money's worth. There's a taxi stand nearby Trinity College entrance.
