Description

Take a half-day adventure to the spiritual Batu Caves, just north of Kuala Lumpur, and climb the 272 steps carved into the sides of giant limestone cliffs to reach the Hindu temple at the summit. Visit the Batik Center to experience traditional Malaysian cloth-dying, used as sarongs and fabric.

Leave the hustle and bustle of the city behind as you head to the 400-million-year-old Batu Caves. Follow in the footsteps of pilgrims before you and brave the climb to reach a temple filled with Hindu shrines. On the way back down, snap a few photos of the mischievous monkeys looking to pick up treats from visitors.

On your way back to town, swing by the Malaysian Batik Center, where authentic batik fabric is designed and produced into ready-to-wear material, and look for unique pewter item at the Royal Selangor Pewter Center, where you see the world’s largest pewter company at work and can pick up some splendid souvenirs.

The trip to Batu Caves was excellent, and a must-see destination for visitors to KL. Be prepared to spend a couple of hours visiting the Royal Selangoor pewter factory and a batik factory first. If you don't want to bother with that, you can take the train from KL Sentral to Batu Caves.

Be aware this trip does NOT go to Little India. When I showed the guide it was supposed to go there he acted like it was Expedia’s fault for the incorrect itinerary. The trip was okay. The trip is inexpensive because they take you to places to sell you items. The Pewter place and Batik store. The pewter tour was more interesting than I thought it would be. We were in the back of the van, asked the guide to speak up a couple of times and finally just gave up trying to hear. If you don’t want to mess with finding your own way to the caves this is an inexpensive way of getting there. You can get there for about 3 MYR each way and about the same for entrance if you want to try public transport. Pick up and drop off was well coordinated.

Unfortunately it was a little dirty as the festival had finished a couple of days before and they were still cleaning up. So a little smelly and dirty. Still worth seeing.
