Copenhagen: Small-Group Hygge & Happiness Tour

by Urban Adventures Duration 3h 30m Free cancellation available No booking or credit card fees
per traveller Price is £69

If you are going to get to the heart of hygge, you need to go back in time. We begin our Copenhagen tour near the characteristic yellow houses of Nyboder, a famed district that was built by King Christian IV in the 17th century to house the growing Royal Danish Navy. We walk down the small streets of Nyboder, ending our area walk with a cup of coffee and a Danish breakfast pastry. As we reach Kongens Have (The King’s Garden), you hear the dramatic story of how the once-royal park came to be one of the first public parks in the world.

As we search for more hygge, we'll continue to wander some of Copenhagen’s oldest and most charming streets, chatting about the meaning of hygge and sharing our hygge experiences, before we cross Strøget - one of the longest pedestrian streets in the world, where we will talk about Danish design and how this plays a significant role in Danish homes and hearts.

From there, we pass by the castles that house government offices and parliament and talk about both the formal and informal ways that Denmark is governed — and how the country has succeed in creating a system with a very high degree of trust and confidence. You get to see the lovely and hidden library garden, where Copenhageners visit when they need a quiet moment in the middle of the city.

We finish our walking tour of Copenhagen in a street café on a quiet street located in the city centre, where you experience hygge in its purest form.

The Hygge tour was great: the guide was very knowledgable about the city, and its history. It was also great to chat with the group and the guide about our impressions. It was very well organised. I definitely recommend!

Absolutely loved Mie, our guide! We actually loved the tour so much we ended up extending our tour to include the little mermaid, the opera house, and the royal palace. Mie was amazing. She had a back story for every single thing and was so patient with us. It was a particularly windy day and we failed to account for the wind chill factor and she waited for us to buy gloves and hats to continue with the tour. She also offered great recommendations for the rest of our time in Copenhagen. Cannot stress how much we loved our guide. 100% recommend this tour, you will not regret it!

our guide was a nice, friendly young man. However he ha a limited knowledge of history and general economic facts about Denmark. One of the reasons one pays such a fee is not only for the walk but mostly for the general knowledge that one can learn from a local which does not appear in the tourist books.
