Colonia City Day Tour

by Gray Line Argentina Duration 11h Non-refundable No booking or credit card fees
per traveller Price is £131

Take a day trip to the picturesque town of Colonia del Sacramento in Uruguay, a UNESCO World Heritage site just across the Río de la Plata. Be charmed by its old world ambiance as you explore its colonial history, lush gardens and peaceful, cobbled streets.

After being picked up from your hotel, head to the ferry terminal for the hour-long cruise to Colonia. Disembark and begin your walking tour of the pedestrian-only historic centre, following your guide through the city gate and along cobbled streets built by the Portuguese in the 17th century. Stroll across the tree-lined Plaza Mayor to admire 18th-century stone buildings and the refurbished Basílica del Santísimo Sacramento.

Gaze up at the crumbling Moorish façade of the Plaza de toros Real de San Carlos, a now-derelict turn-of-the-century bullring, and take in the Faro, a 19th-century lighthouse perched on a peninsula that juts out into the Rio de la Plata. Meander along the waterfront fortifications of the Puerto Viejo and step back in time at the 1680 Iglesia de la Matriz in the Plaza de Armas, which is also home to a tile-roofed colonial Portuguese house.

After the tour, enjoy some free time for lunch. The town is known for its asada barbecue restaurants. Then continue to explore on your own, or just sip sangria in the sun before your return ferry to Buenos Aires.

Just not worth the time, for a UNESCO site there is really not much to see Arrived on the ferry around 9:45 to start with an overview bus tour and then a walking tour of the old city. Bus tour started at 10:00am finished at 10:30 walking tour started finished at 11:45. And that's about it. Nothing overly special would have been better to stay the day in Buenos Aires much more to see

Nice quiet, but beautiful city. Tour guide very sweet and knowledgeable. Wish there was more instructions given before heading to the ferry terminal. It was somewhat difficult to figure out what to do. Vouchers needed to be printed but aren't emailed until 24 hrs before, unfortunately our hotel printer did not work. Makes it a little inconvenient.

Vendor cancelled booking on fully paid tickets which had issued and with a confirmation. Not an asset to the Expedia community.
