Description

Journey into the last sections of historically protected Brooklyn on this tour that takes you back in time through the founding of the borough and the artistic traditions that it fostered. Hear fascinating stories of the district's notable writers as you visit 3 of the area's long-standing bars.

Meet your guide in the heart of Brooklyn Heights, a spot that offers stunning views of the East River, Lower Manhattan, and the incredible Brooklyn Bridge. Begin your day by talking about Walt Whitman, perhaps the borough's most influential poet. Although much of the area has changed since his time in the 1800s, remnants of the past can still be felt as you gaze out upon historic Fulton Ferry Landing.

Head down the street towards Monterro's Bar and Grill, a classic and perfect Brooklyn Bar once a hangout for some Beats, Frank McCourt and most of the shipping industry. Continue on to the Brooklyn Inn, one of the oldest bars in the borough, to admire its hardwood interior and intricate tin ceiling while hearing tales of the influential authors who have walked through these doors.

At each location you visit, you have time to sit down and enjoy a drink, including any of the many beers that are handcrafted in Brooklyn. In between stops, your guide also shares stories of the area's immigrant beginnings and the effects of gentrification. Learn about the history, culture, and great literature that helped shape this amazing community.

Our guide, Marissa Levine, was very knowledge and a delight to listen to for 3 hours on a literary pub crawl. She is knowledgeable, entertaining and clearly in love with her topic. Highly recommend this tour.
