The train from Athens to Kalambaka left on time. It is fairly comfortable to sit in the first class coach and the beautiful Greek countryside views from the window are enjoyable. The driver who picked up us at Kalambaka train station is very friendly and responsible. The 4-star hotel is ok but the view of vertical cliffs and the distance view of the St. Stephen Monastery on a cliff from the hotel balcony is breathtaking. Kalambaka is a small town and there are not too much you can do there in the afternoon. We decided to take a 30-40 minute hiking trail from the old town at the foot of the rock mountain to the Holy Trinity Monastery (Agia Triada) that is perched on the top of a cliffy rock. Once you get to a road above the monastery, the view of the Monastery and its surroundings is magnificent. The tour to Meteora on the second day was great. The tour guide is very knowledgeable and friendly. The views of Meteora are serene and extraordinary. I highly recommend this tour.

We wish the tour company told us what time we are supposed to go to the lobby to meet the guide. It was not anywhere in the itinerary. Also, there is not much to do at Meteora. When we arrived there, most places are closed already. So after going to the Mushroom Museum (only thing to do :( ) we just stayed at the hotel. The next day it was raining and we can barely see the monasteries. The tour guide was good though. So kodus to him. We could’ve done the one day tour and not waste another day wasted doing nothing.

Great experience to go to Kalabaka and Meteora. Loved the tour. However, the accommodation was horrible. I would not recommend the 3 star hotel at all - the food was so bad and you could hear everything through the walls of the hotel. Also, it was quite dated.
