The pretty hamlet of Veuves is recognisable by its quaint houses, green vegetation and hilly lanes. Use it as a tranquil base for explorations of surrounding castles, rivers and forests. Book a tour along the Loire River in a traditional boat or Canadian canoe. Learn about the art of glass blowing at the Levée de la Loire. Workshops take place inside a troglodyte cave. Soar above castles in a hot air balloon. Among the nearest castles is the Royal Château of Amboise, a short journey west along the river. Admire the grand turrets and bold façade of this 15th-century château. Inspect the Gothic and Renaissance furniture decorating the halls and chambers. A short walk from the castle is the Clos-Lucé structure, the final home of Leonardo da Vinci. Peruse exhibits showcasing models of the Italian artist’s inventions and artworks. Other highlights near Veuves are the Château de Chenonceau, the Château de Cheverny and the Château de Chambord. Take daytrips to the cities of Blois and Tours to see their churches and museums. Veuves is on the northern side of the Loire River in the Loir-et-Cher department of central France. The city of Blois is 13 miles (21 kilometres) northeast.
