Hotels.com\u2019s 2026 Hotels of the Year list highlights a growing interest in historic buildings reborn as luxury stays<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Travellers are increasingly choosing hotels with a story. According to Hotels.com\u2019s 2026 Hotels of the Year list, part of Expedia Group\u2019s Unpack \u201926<\/a> travel trends report, a new trend is emerging: \u201cSalvaged Stays\u201d \u2014 historic buildings repurposed into upscale hotels. From former prisons to train stations, travellers are seeking out hotels that blend history with luxury.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cTravellers are craving more than just a place to sleep \u2014 they want a story to tell,\u201d says Melanie Fish, VP of Global Communications at Expedia Group. \u201cSalvaged Stays are the perfect blend of character, culture, and comfort. This year I\u2019ve stayed in an old post office, a jail, and a warehouse \u2014 the past definitely has a future in hospitality.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
