We did not stay ! When we arrived in our room, Superior room no.1, it was freezing cold. There was an oil-filled radiator that did not work, and no central heating. On discussion with the receptionist a young man came to the room, discovered the cold conditions, tried the radiators, fetched a replacement oil-filled radiator, checked the central heating pipework and informed us the heating would not be on till 6pm, at which time he might have to bleed the radiators. All of this should have been checked prior to our arrival. Indeed, someone must have known the conditions in the room since condiments had been put in place. By this time I had developed a severe case of shivering. To be noted,, downstairs the premises were warm, as one would expect. My wife and I felt we were unable to stay in these circumstances. On informing the receptionist we would not be stopping she repeatedly asked what could be done to change our minds. The simple answer is we should never have been exposed to such atrocious conditions in the first place.
I was further insulted that, when I arrived home and checked my bank account the Woolpack had had the audacity to charge my account for a stay that they had made totally intolerable in the first place. I have, at last, received a full refund.
We are more than a little disappointed by this episode as we have enjoyed our previous stays at the Woolpack and it had become our automatic first stop when visiting my southern family.
