Stayed here for a couple of days on arrival in Shanghai and were quite happy with it so booked a couple more nights on returning to shanghai. Outside looks a little jaded but the inside is bright and clean and so were the rooms and restaurant. Lovely views from rooms and public square in front hosts an assortment of Chinese activities which are great to watch even if you don't want to join in. Are was safe and always a police presence, no trouble. People friendly, breakfast plentiful if a little weird, but remember it is Chinese, although they do toast and cereal as well (warm milk though). Nice extra touches in room such as slippers, combs and toothbrushes all new and sealed.

The hotel has a good location near metro and railway stations and many restaurants. The breakfast food is OK and has varieties; but they seem understaffed; so cleaning tables is really slow, completing missing items slow. Juice, tea and coffee not enough for all guests. Utensils and plates not all clean! The staff speak very bad English; they are not friendly with English speaking tourists. I tried to charge my mobile phone in electric outlet at an abandoned counter and the guy on the active counter shouted at me like I'm a criminal and they don't smile. A young female staff gave me wrong advice on what metro station to go to the Bund; we walked too much; she told us Nanjing West and the correct is People's square station. The room furniture is old; but I don't usually care about this; since we don't stay much in the room. It had a safe which was a good thing; but no fridge. They did supply drinking water daily and that was good.. Conclusion: the staff needs some hospitality and English training. More staff at breakfast will make the nice breakfast more enjoyable.
It was really convenient to head to Metro 1 station (Hanzong road) from the hotel. I had free wifi available in the room, which made the experience better! Also, the room was comfortable, & clean. I would head back there on my next visit in Shanghai!

Zhabei is a transportation hub, trade and commerce center, and nightlife hotspot. Shanghai Train Station offers non-stop services to Beijing and high-speed trains to other cities. Metro line trains and long-haul buses are also available here. At night, the station neighborhood transforms into Everbright City, with young Shanghainese lured by brightly lit nightclubs, bars, and restaurants.
