not great

Posted 09-Aug-2017
Don't recommend at all. Room was musty and a/c does not work. There was a large water stain in our bedroom with a peeling ceiling. Not good

Good hotel, easy access to the city centre

Enjoyable stay the hotel staff were friendly and welcoming. The spa area was well maintained. The only problem i had was my room was above the kitchen vents which made sleeping with the window open a problem due to the noise.

Spacious, comfortable rooms

Posted 12-Jul-2017
After coming from the Peak District and having a very tiny room with no air conditioning there, staying at the York Marriott was a luxury. We enjoyed our stay and wish we would have stayed longer. The pool was great and the gym. They made a great hot chocolate at the bar for my kids. We had a car, so we drove to a car park and walked around York for the day. It worked well for us because after exploring York for the day, we could park our car at the hotel for free. We also enjoyed our breakfast that was included in the room price. Overall great stay for us. :)

Decent hotel near to York Racecource

Posted 08-Jul-2017
Pros: Near to Racecource Reception staff great
Cons: See above
Location: Lots to do and see at York with York Minster top of the list Open topped sightseeing bus available to see the high spots
Reception staff great and very friendly Only one very small lift serving three floors Safe faulty and air con not working( on probably the two hottest days of the year Safe repaired very quickly but engineer unable to fix air on suggesting that we should change rooms! Double bed small for such a prestigious hotel chain Dining room not air conned either Overall very dissapointed

Terrible, terrible customer service

Posted 07-Jul-2017
While the hotel itself is clean and the room and the facilities are fine, the staff was so unpleasant, unhelpful and subpar in their service, the entire experience was wrecked for us. Do not eat in the hotel- our very simple meal and dessert lasted over 2.5 hours due to waiting to be greeted, waited on, to order, To have our food and then dessert arrive and then 20 min for the check. Every time we had to flag someone down to do everything. The worst Marriott experience we have ever had and we travel for work and vacations often. Find another place to stay in this amazing city.

Could do better

Posted 03-Jul-2017
Pros: Pool & garden were great. TV will also be great when the movies are working. Air con in the room was good.
Cons: Update the bathroom quickly. Invest a few pounds in new tennis rackets. Fix the wardrobes. Reduce the price.
Location: Very close to York racetrack. Was difficult to find good restaurants nearby, but that could just be because we turned the wrong way out of the hotel.
Room had 2 double beds for us & the kids, but was very expensive (360) for one night. There was no view as we could only see the car park. The bathroom was poor. Only had a very narrow bath with a shower fitting. The shelf above the bath, together with the very old fashioned curtain meant it was very difficult to get washed without knocking your head or falling out. The wardrobe doors were the sliding type, but they didn't run properly. When we tried to use the tennis court for all 4 of us, there were only 3 rackets & they were in a very poor condition. The court was also covered in large stones we had to clear so we didn't risk turning our ankles. The large tv was excellent, but it didn't have Pay Per View movies, despite saying in all the room literature that it did. Lastly, and it wasn't the hotel's fault, but there was a large wedding party there at the same time & they were very lively. By 5pm, most of the wedding party were drunk & very loud. There was lots of swearing & several of the men were using the garden instead of the toilets. My youngest was quite upset. We couldn't eat in the hotel that evening, due to the same wedding party in the bar next to the restaurant.

Lovely Hotel

Posted 27-Jun-2017
The room was clean and presented immaculately as always with Marriott, it is quite a long walk from the city centre though about 30-40 mins. And there was no tea making facilities in the room, being from Yorkshire I need tea, therefore would have liked to have it. Being right next to York Racecourse would be an excellent choice after a day at the races.
