The Principal Hotel is an amazing hotel. Very close to the train station and easy walking distance to the centre of York. Our room and washroom were spacious and comfortable. The staff were friendly and very helpful. This stay has been a highlight of our stays so far.

Fantastic building maintaining many original features. Staff friendly and attentive and more than willing to help with anything. Room was lovely, we stayed in a suite. There was some work going on in hotel, only to be expected in such a large hotel, but this didnt cause any issues. Excellent location for train station

Absolutely amazing staycation can not fault Has all you need Price is reasonable for what you get The only thing I could fault is the breakfast options not as big and that the scrambled egg is tooo runny

What a wonderful hotel. Stayed here for 4 nights in March 2023. I honestly cannot fault the place. We had breakfast, afternoon tea, used all the facilities. Faultless! The room was beautiful. The whole experience was amazing. The staff were so professional, helpful and efficient. We will certainly return to this oasis of an hotel.

The location of the property was ideal for travel. It’s immediately next to the train station and within minutes of walking to the attractions in the city. I was given a room with an amazing room of the Minster. The Garden Room is a beautiful place to sit and enjoy a glass of wine or tea. However, the service for food there was less than desirable. The staff does not attend the tables or take orders. It was a constant walk up to the bar and order, wait, pay and then walk back to table. I didn’t mind that process but it was unclear upon sitting down what the expectation is and for the prices, it seemed it should be more than self service. I also prepaid for drink vouchers on the website at at discounted price. When I got to the hotel and asked for them, no one seemed to know what I was talking about. The vouchers appeared on my bill but then no drinks were applied to them. It was too much of a process to argue the double paying so I just let it go.

Lovely hotel around the reception area and the Garden Room..Great location and walking distance to all the sites,shops bars and restaurants. We did have an issue with our room on the first night whereby the bed had practically collapsed and the bathroom dado rail was not clean along with cobwebs in the room..Shower leaked and the armchairs were stained. We went to reception whereby we were dealt with by a lovely chap who was very helpful and immediately changed our room. Just feel that housekeeping needs to up the game with the eye for detail on the cleanliness on the rooms as our second room also had cobwebs and the bathroom did smell bad with the drains or plug holes not being clean but this was dealt with very promptly by reception.. On the we had a great time in York.

My wife and I had a really nice two night stay. The hotel is fabulous. The superior king size room spot on. We decided to have breakfast in the hotel and was not disappointed. All the staff are incredibly helpful and polite. All in all, couldn’t fault it. Will definitely stay again the next time we visit York. 🌟 🌟🌟🌟🌟

The property was simply stunning from the outside to the inside. It has been very well maintained. I felt like I was living a luxurious life. The staff were very kind and helpful. Our room was beautiful and cozy. The one thing I look for in a hotel is an amazing bathroom. I believe the bathroom in our room is the best bathroom in a hotel room that I have ever had. I felt like I was in a spa. I had never ordered room service, and I am glad I did at Principal York. It was worth it! Everything was exceptional from the moment we arrived until the moment we left! Not quite up to standard
The Principal is very easy to get to and has ample onsite parking (extra charge). Reception staff were very friendly, efficient and helpful. Our bedroom (room 321) was quite small with what seemed like a small double bed. Although it was quite mild for December and the bedroom was not cold, the radiator did not work - reception was informed at checkout. We also found blood stains on the duvet cover but forgot to inform reception. The bathroom was also small with the toilet squeezed in at the end, however fittings were clean and shower was really good. Overall the hotel was very impressive but the bedroom let it down.

Loved York but unfortunately I felt for the price we paid for this hotel the room we were given was very disappointing! With breakfast for two nights we paid just short of £400 for two nights! We usually go abroad for the markets but decided to upgrade and stay nearer home this time. The room was very small ( I was shocked at the size of the room as the money we paid I really expected plush) and there was a problem with the heat on night number one, it was like a sauna even having the windows opened we could not sleep! The two night stay meant we visited York for one day and after a night of no sleep we were too exhausted to enjoy anything! The hotel itself lovely, spa facilities very nice! They did move us to another much cooler room for the second night and they apologized for what was an obvious problem in the room we’d been given which was ok but I was very disappointed! York is fabulous but I think maybe a travelodge would have been just as good for us if not better!

Your description is not accurate
Hotel has Good location However your description of the type of rooms of rooms doesn't match theirs So we booked a junior suite on here really looking forward to however we were left very disappointed as when we arrived & checked in to our room it was not as described no lounge area

Such a lovely hotel but such a shame
This is a beautiful hotel. Absolutely beautiful! So grand and welcoming! However, our room was so hot! Beyond hot so the lovely sleep we expected left us up all night unable to get comfortable! Such a shame as the rest of the experience was lovely! But we had to use the fan and open the window right next to the station which was so noisy so we ended up really disappointed 😞

Dear Claire,Thank you for staying at the Principal York and taking the time to send your feedback. We are pleased to hear you loved some aspects of the hotel. The hotel being an old listed one it is hard to regulate the temperature. Our heating system is on timer and some rooms do get hotter than others. We do provide fans in the rooms and it does serve its purpose. The location of the hotel, close to the station and the busy main road makes it hard to control the level of noise that infiltrates .We are sorry , the stay was not as you expected, but we do hope you visit us again .Kind Regards
