It’s called minster loft for a reason, 3 flights of stairs via a dentist reception, low beamed ceilings, and sloping floors & half a sloping bed !!! Great views but early morning wake up calls by the Minster bells and street noise. We came early December ( Fri-Mon) for the Xmas markets, which were mobbed on the Saturday. Our tastes may be different from most, so though we loved it, be aware that it is up several steep and narrow flights of stairs. This is an attic apartment, with windows that look out to York Minster on one side, and over the old city on the other. The big church is only about a hundred yards away, and so close that it takes three camera frames to catch in in panorama. When the carillon cranks up, it is an event! Ceilings are slanted and low, with wonderful old wood beams protruding; tall people like me need to remain alert. The kitchenette and bathroom are up to date. Nice views from all the windows except the one that opens onto the roof, which you might expect. The apartment isn't for tall people though and above 5'8" might be a little cramped. My wife and i now know how Quasimodo got his hump. That said I would not hold it against the nicely laid out apartment with its exposed 300 year old wood beams. A lovely place to stay right in the heart of the old city and immersed in history. Easy access to all the major attractions. In summary I would say its nice and quiet, very secure and safe and easy access to shopping, attractions and pubs. Deceivingly big in size, offering everything we needed for a quirky city break. Perfectly located with immediate access to the main York streets, attractions and opposite the impressive York Minster. The property included a ecent sized open plan kitchen/lounge/dining area and a snug size bedroom with plenty big enough bathroom. As you would expect from a property in the centre of a city parking options were either paid council run parking sites, but as we were staying for 3 nights and the prospect of 4 full days without really needing the car we decided to park for free on Hospital Fields Road - a good 25 minute walk but still convenient given the cost for parking. It delivered but there are some challenges. Four keys were found in the lockbox and depending on the other tenants, 2,3 or 4 keys needed to be used. Try to arrive during office hours in case help is needed. Wifi was imperfect. Stairs to the loft become very winding. Very central right opposite Minster Cathedral. The bells rang for about an hour on the Sunday midmorning, but don't know if that is a regular thing. The loft was cosy and warm. Too warm at times but you can adjust the heating. I don't think the bedroom window opens as i struggled with it,so a shame no air can get in as the bedroom can feel a little stuffy at times. The only difficulty we found was using the chubb key through the very first entrance as was very stiff to turn. On the first night out heading back, we thought we were going to be locked out. There is also a very loud noise that comes from the fuse box at times. I think it would be a good idea to have a visitors diary there to look back on other peoples experiences. I would recommend it for it's very central location, close bedroom view of the Cathedral and quirky design. Clean and a nice view out of the bedroom window. Limited headroom, up lots of stairs and a bit strange going through a dentists but you get used to it quickly. Step out of the front door and you are bang in the centre of York, so the location couldn’t be better. The welcome pack was really thoughtful with some lovely touches. The location was top notch and even though you had to walk through a dentist surgery to get to the apartment, this wasn’t a problem. The ceilings were low with it being a loft apartment, but you quickly got used to this.
