A lovely B&B in close working

A footbridge to a nice hotel!

We were pleased with our room at 23 St Mary's. It was very clean, and the owner obviously aimed to please. There were lots of personal touches, like a tea service in our room with cookies. The bath towels were wonderful. We don't travel that often, and it's hard getting used to checking into a hotel with no human or check-in desk. We had a nice welcome bag waiting for us with instructions. We were on the top floor, so it isn't for people with walking difficulties. I'm sure these types of setups (with no personnel in a lobby) can work well. Our concern was that with no cell phone service, we couldn't have just called someone if problems arose. Not all international travelers have cell phone service. Overall, it was a very pleasant stay. We discovered the morning after we arrived that we could have walked directly from the train station to the hotel by a newer foot bridge at the end of the train station platform. That would be great information for the hotel to include in their information. We probably walked twice as far as needed. Even though Google maps showed the bridge, you can't always count on Google maps for walkable directions, and it was dark. That foot bridge makes this hotel a very desirable location for those who are on foot from the train.

    5/5 Excellent

We loved the fact that this property was within a short walk from the city centre and the old city walls and the Minster. It is also situated in a quiet area with no traffic noise and the house itself is very clean and well maintained. All areas are tastefully decorated and our room was very comfortable . Breakfast was cooked to order .

Staff welcoming, friendly and helpful Decent size room (5) with a Huge Lovely comfortable bed lovely fresh breakfast , with a good varied selection Ideal location, 10 minute walk into the centre of York , take the short cut through the museum gardens if you want to nit pick , the toilet roll holder, the toilet cistern handle and the hot tap are all very loose and the window frame needs a bit of TLC, nothing that detracted from our stay

Just an overnight visit, but would return

Dropped off son at Uni and stayed overnight here with my partner as the pics on your site looked charming. A very pleasant stay, the whole B&B is beautifully decorated, and a delicious breakfast the next day too. Location is great, a quiet side street off a main road, but with limited parking on site - there is a public car park within throwing distance though! We were offered a change of room, to the "garden" room - effectively in the basement but with it's own external access direct from the garden which was great. No lifts at property, only stairs, in case that's important. The bathroom in room 12 is to die for - I wish mine was as glam! Overall, loved it here and would definitely come back for a longer visit. Staff cannot be faulted either - friendly and helpful, thank you for a lovely - if too short - stay :)
