Sands of Time

"We LOVED sands of time and mainly due to the “mama” of the hotel, Aytan. She made home cooked breakfasts, and was incredibly hospitable and helpful at any time with basically everything. We came there as a family with a small child and had a great time. The photos on site do not do this place justice. It is a historic hidden villa with a small courtyard and you are located dead center of the Old Town Baku. I suggest getting a car through them from the airport- yes… it will be more expensive than using an app etc BUT they guarantee pick up and drop you and your luggage off right at the door. Just fyi the old city is off limits for most cars so if you take other transport, you may have to drag your luggage couple miles of winding streets uphill on cobblestone… so worth paying a bit extra. We got lucky and ended up in a room with a washer- lifesaver for traveling with a child. But all rooms are different, ask which you’ll get before coming. Their reception was great and very responsive via WhatsApp. Food- Aytan made a great variety of food in the morning (highly recommend adding breakfasts to your stay). The hotel is inside the old city and all the restaurants around are Not cheap. Also most open up pretty late for a western tourist. So get breakfast in the hotel, save yourself some headache. Menu was varied- she cooked different egg and omelette dishes, lots of variety for small sandwiches, yogurts, homemade pancakes, oatmeal etc. They get A+ from my little family"

"The location was great walking around old city. To make up for this the staff were brilliant. A special thanks to Khazar and Cemil. We had a visa issue so arrived 3 hours late and they resent the driver to pick us during rush hour. They also helped organise trips late the day before including private driver trip to Sheki. Breakfast was good and regularly topped up. The only recommendation would be to make the rooms a bit more modern. They are basic and functional but not four star.Thanks to all the staff at Sunday for making it a memorable trip in lovely Azerbaijan."
