Close to the river...very quiet

Posted 16-Dec-2015
Pros: Location
Cons: Parking and getting your belongings inside. Free covered garage parking, but it can be a chore to maneuver.
Location: The Ohio river, olgebay, the toy and train museum, constitution hall, lots of stuff!
This is a very old hotel that was modernized quite well. If you are looking for. Action, don't stay here! It's a very quiet location, quite dead at night but a great location from the riverfront and the view from our room was awesome. The cookies and pinch in the afternoon was a nice touch. The continental breakfast was just fair. There was a little of a lot but it was all prepackaged food. Overall, a good place for a great deal.

Nice hotel and reasonably priced

Posted 29-Nov-2015
I was participating in an event at the Wheeling Island Casino. I was unable to book the hotel there. The McLure was very close and easy to get to, reasonably priced, as well as clean and comfortable.

Not worth it!!!

Posted 27-Oct-2015 on Hotels
My stay at this hotel was horrible. First off, when I received my email confirmation it said I'd have a room with view of the river...the river was 3 blocks away, so no view. Then in the same email I was informed checkout was at noon...it wasnt, it was at 11. Again in same email, and on the hotel website it said the room had a blow dryer, mine did not. Lastly, we were informed that the air conditioning had been turned off for the year...our room was 90 degrees, and the windows were only to be opened in cases of emergency. So needless to say, our stay was NOT a pleasant one, nor will we ever be staying there again!

Very Disappointing

Posted 12-Oct-2015
Pros: Nothing.
Cons: Everything.
Location: Downtown is deserted, I didn't feel safe walking around. Like a ghost town.
The hotel is very old and not kept up well. The carpet in the room was dirty, stains on the sheets and had a distinct odor. If you need to stay in Wheeling, stay in one of the suburbs.....stay away from downtown (bad neighborhood).

Will not stay here again! Chairs were ratty and stained. Hallways smelled. But worst of all was the uncomfortable temperature of the room. When I reported this, they said the air conditioning was turned off to switch over to heating. Just an explanation no apology. They said the it was suppose to drop into low 60's or upper 50's that evening but since the window could not be opened, it did not make the room any more comfortable for sleeping. I felt cheated that they had not informed me of this before checking in. I feel like they owe me some kind of refund, but that was not offered when I complained again at check out.

Quiet and centrally located

Close to Bethany, quiet and nice. Downtown Wheeling was a bit sad and not a lot of dining options within walking distance, but it was convenient to where we needed to go. Would stay again.
