Working Cotswold break

Posted 18-Jan-2016
Pros: Location, easy access to Tetbury and other towns
Cons: The restaurant is cold and uninviting and so was the food and the menu in general, VERY disappointing.
Location: See above.
The Hare & Hounds is a lovely old Cotswold building and collection of new buildings comprising bedrooms. The hotel is part of a "chain" of properties in one group in the region and it shows, particularly in the disappointing and very dull food and menu. The dining room is a cavernous room where every sound is echoed and very cold and uninviting. The dinner and lunch menu was extremely bland and unimaginative...when the food arrives the boredom in the kitchen is plain to see ! It is a nice hotel to stay art, but make sure you eat elsewhere.

Wonderful 1 night break

Posted 23-Nov-2015
Pros: Everything!
Cons: The safe in our room didn't work - not really an issue though since we were only there for 1 night.
We stayed in the Ash suite which was fantastic and had lots of space. There was a wedding on at the same time but you would not have known; they must have excellent sound proofing in their function room. Dinner in the restaurant was excellent and highly recommended.

Good hotel, ideal for visiting Westonbirt and area

Posted 30-Oct-2015
Cons: There is a lingering smell of old frying fat in the bar.
As always a most pleasant stay. Food in the restaurant excellent.

The Grubby Hare & Hounds Hotel at Westonbirt

Posted 30-Oct-2015 on Hotels
This country hotel is large and the grounds are enormous. The hotel has pretensions of grandeur which are matched by the prices they charge but not by the skeleton staff and the service provided. Having had a large lunch before arriving we baulked at paying £40 plus each for a two course meal in the restaurant so headed for the Jack Hare Bar where the prices for food and wine were exorbitant. We were shown to a melamine topped table with screw heads sticking out of the top. Ingrained dirt was evident. The food was good even though the portions were meagre. I don't expect to pay £70+ for a bar meal for two.

Overnight stay with dinner and breakfast

The staff were very attentive straight from the point of entering the hotel at reception through to the staff waiting on tables at meal time. The food was very nicely cooked and presented and flavoursome. It was a very enjoyable overnight stay.

Hare and Hounds Hotel

We really enjoyed our stay. Comfortable bed and a decent sized room. Staff were helpful and very cheerful. The menu in the bar was good and gave a reasonable choice. It was a good base for seeing the local area.

Nice old pub close to Highgrove. Tetbury close. Food average and expensive,2 miles from other eats in Tetbury. Very old English feeling, very Miss Marples.

The hotel has lovely grounds in the sunshine. It is also spacious with sitting areas away from the bar and restaurant. It has a relaxed atmosphere and friendly staff.
