Experience an off-grid vacation at Piñon Flats, a smoke-free, two-bedroom, one bath, full kitchen cabin/casita, sleeps 4 nestled in the beautiful Wet Mountains! You have the whole cabin and property to yourself! Relish the view of the 9,030' McKinley Mountain from the deck and 360° outdoor living areas. Kick back, relax and enjoy Lenticular cloud formations. Walk the land the Ute Indians traveled for hunting and gathering to see Culturally Modified Trees used for marking routes and sun positions as verified by a local archaeologist. Walking tours personally guided upon request! We gratefully hold the responsibility of taking care of this land as those who came before us. Lounge on the front deck for your morning coffee or relax to the beautiful sunsets. Watch mule deer graze and you may even see a Golden Eagle or Redtail Hawk soaring above as they search for their next meal. Gaze at the Milky Way, meteor showers and eclipses from the hammocks. Amateur or professional astronomers – this is a must see! There are multiple outdoor sitting areas. Play horseshoes out back of the casita. Or if you feel like going for a hike, walk the 2-mile Durfee Circle to view the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. Piñon Flats has a wide variety of wildflowers, cacti, Piñon, Ponderosa and Juniper trees. Pinon Flats is off-grid with all electrical needs provided by the solar panels and batteries. When the sun is scarce, there is a back-up propane generator to insure all your electrical needs are met. Water is drawn from the well and wastewater is treated in an on-site septic system. Reliable Starlink Internet is available for work or zooming. When your day of enjoying the outdoors is over, the casita’s fully stocked kitchen makes preparing any meal easy to refuel for your next day adventures. There is a refrigerator/freezer and gas stove/oven. Appliances include: coffee maker, pots, pans, crockpot, 3-burner propane grill (dishware and silverware, too.) All you need to bring is food! Lounge around in the warmth of the wood pellet stove (pellets provided) or propane heaters during winter months. Watch the smart TV, listen to music on the MP3/CD player, read or play board games and talk around the unique custom-made dining table. It even glows at night! The bathroom has a hot water shower, sink and toilet. Towels, eco-friendly soap and shampoo/conditioner are provided. The Mountain bedroom has a queen size bed and the License-plate room has 2 single beds. Mountain-aired blankets, sheets and pillows are provided for all beds. The casita is smoke-free, so only vaping indoors is allowed. 420 friendly. We stayed here and made day trips, very convenient. It was very relaxing to come back to the cabin and just enjoy the peacefulness of the evening. The view of all the stars at night was beautiful. One morning we were greeted by six mule deer on the front lawn. Leann was absolutely wonderful. We enjoyed visiting with her and sharing stories. Would definitely recommend this cabin. ##### David C. Hiking from the house is also available. The house is cozy and exceptionally clean. Individually colored bath towels for each guest. Kitchen nicely stocked with quality cooking items. Strong Wifi. My partner and I do wish the mattress was a bit more comfortable, but otherwise, the cabin itself was great. I do wish that I would have had the owners' phone number prior to getting to the cabin, due to difficulty with getting to the cabin on the first night, but they were very responsive via email and provided helpful directions once I emailed them; however, by that point, we had already turned back to Canon City and found a motel, so we missed out on our first night in the cabin and there was no monetary reimbursement for that. The owners were friendly and shared some great information about the area. We also appreciated that the cabin was well-supplied with essentials. Overall, it was a great place to stay, once we had the correct directions for getting there. ##### Emily G. We were treated with an early mountain snow storm and truly enjoyed every moment. The photos do not do the cabin justice, it is cozy and beautiful. The owners have thought of everything and are a very friendly couple who came to check on us when we arrived and when it was snowing to clear the porch and solar panels. There were even fresh baked cookies! The cabin is so well thought out with picturesque views from every window. Kitchen was well appointed with everything we needed to make our meals, we stopped at the grocery in Pueblo before heading up the mountain. The weather was warm when we arrived and we enjoyed the hammocks while the sun was shining. Peace, privacy, mountain scenery, fresh air, and huge piñon trees made this off grid experience one we wont forget! ##### Trisha S. Lots of deer sighting. Simple, clean, fun house. Quality-time things available to use inside and out. I love the bright colors they used in decorating. The photos don't do the rooms justice, especially the spacious Kitchen-dining-living room with its cozy pellet stove. Textured concrete floors were cool in the mornings (we had our slippers), but super easy to clean - ideal for having littles along. Good to know: The couch in the living room is a futon - could sleep 2 (making 6 total sleep spots in the Casita). The cabin is very remote - about 30 minutes from town. Driving directions are complex but thorough and the dirt roads need AWD close to the end. And unfortunately, for those who are mold sensitive, we definitely had symptoms here, despite work they've clearly done to prevent water damage (reason I bumped my review down to 4 stars). ##### Lucy G. Leanne was very nice, she came over the first morning to introduce herself and ask if we had any questions and Doug stopped by later in the week to check on us as well. The views are amazing and the cabin was better than advertised. I would recommend staying here if you are looking for a nice peaceful stay in the mountains. I made the mistake of draining the solar power by charging a hybrid Jeep that we received from the rental car company. Not having any knowledge of how these vehicles charge and how much power they consume we woke up to the emergency generator running and immediately unplugged. If you have an electric vehicle or receive one from a rental company like we did you should consider asking for a non PHEV or find alternate charging arrangements. Overall was a fantastic stay and we hope to be able to return someday. Thank you for your hospitality. ##### Scott L.
