"1930's faded glamour"
Good hotel close to city and station. 1930's feel and décor. The room was large and so was the bathroom. Our only complaint was the noise. We stayed on a Saturday and there was a wedding going on below our room window. The music was blasting out and it was difficult to sleep. At checkout at reception the next morning I mentioned this, but the receptionist just looked sad and said she was sorry. I do think that guests should be warned if the hotel will be noisy and given the option to go elsewhere. Also, I specifically mentioned that we required parking at the hotel when we booked. However, when we got there the carpark was full. We were directed to the station carpark and paid £19 to leave our car on the roof. It would be a good idea to use this hotel if arriving by train.

"Nice large Old Victorian hotel. "
Everything was very good except shower water was only tepid on second day. Room was great. Bistro was good but a little expensive, probably why not many guests were using it. There was a smell in the foyer/reception, smelt like sewerage. I would stay there again because the room was good and good free parking.

"Anniversary weekend"
Spent an enjoyable couple of days celebrating our wedding anniversary. We were allocated a secluded table in the restaurant which was lovely. Complimentary glasses of champagne which were an unexpectedly thoughtful touch. Food was excellent as was the service. The staff are to be complimented, discreet efficiency. Overall, the restaurant is very good, although we did notice the difference between service on Monday from Sunday evening, but not enough to detract from an enjoyable weekend. We stayed in the cottage annex. Lovely and quiet. Room was large with good lighting. As tea drinkers we would have liked a teapot as the cups were on the small side for steeping a teabag. Servicing of room could have been better. Waste bin in bathroom not emptied, although fresh towels provided which was just as well as no heating to get the used ones dry. Our room upon arrival was definitely on the chilly side with no heating. Difficult to get a good hot shower. Our only real negative was that there was nowhere for guests to sit and have a relaxing coffee or alcoholic drink late afternoon. A guest's lounge area would have made our stay perfect.

"2 nights at Old Golf House Hotel"
Shower temperature needs turning up a couple of degrees, I found it only just bearable. Evening meal on Friday was very pleasant but due to an event taking place in main restaurant we were seated downstairs - only 4 couples all evening and by the end of our meal only us!! No atmosphere down there and too cold. Evening food very good. Breakfast Saturday good - porridge cooked fresh. Breakfast on Sunday all left being kept warm in bain-maries. Porridge not as tasty, scrambled eggs by 09:30 were dried out and inedible, very little fruit salad left and yoghurt bowl had disappeared and more had to requested . All small Danish pastries had gone and only a few croissants left. In rooms Fitted sheets would have been better on beds as with some kind of plastic sheeting underneath to protect mattress they kept sliding all night, very uncomfortable.

"University town hotel"
It was a little far from things. The restaurant was closed on Sunday night and there were not many eating options closeby. The room was not cleaned very well. We found an old pair of socks on the floor and one day they neglected to clean our room at all.

"Nice hotel, very central."
We stayed 1 night before a flight out and found it to be very central, lots of restaurants around. I used the pool and sauna which was quiet and nice. Parking was in the trinity so very easy to sort.

"Comfortable and friendly "
I would not come here for a relaxing holiday, as it is next to the M1, but this hotel was a pleasant surprise. I needed a place to stop for an early start the next morning and it fitted the bill very well. The evening meal was reasonably priced and well cooked. Breakfast was a little limited in choice but for a budget hotel, it was good. The room is comfortable and clean. I did not use the pool but went to look it it, and it seems very nice. I would definitely use again.
