Noise-affected hotel very close to railway
A decent enough place but the location on a main artery means it is very noisy even with the poorly fitted secondary glazing. Even with earplugs in at night.
The furniture is old fashioned and dark brown, and with the traditional decor can feel a bit oppressive. The bathroom was very smart although having no window suffered from a lack of decent lighting, as most do.
There is a mismatch between what is stated in the room info book and what actually happens. For example, it is strongly suggested that valuables are placed in the wee safe provided, but no safe key was offered at check in. Similarly it is stated that there is evening turn down, though this didn't materialise. No maps were available, etc etc. A case of talking a good game and then not following through.
Location was very convenient as I travelled by train. Cannot comment on catering as I didn't eat at the hotel. Water and biscuits provided.
