Tired hotel with strange pricing structure

Tired room, a bit shabby, floor not vacuumed or sheets changed during week long stay. Bathroom floor could do with renewing, torn Lino too hard to clean. Spring on all room doors force them to slam shut. Friend stayed for less money and had breakfast included, I paid more for room only! Not impressed! Had dinner one night only (not included), not impressed, meat tough, grisly and very pricy. Lovely outlook to room with balcony overlooking trees and shower was excellent. Bed was amazingly comfortable. Only saw 3 members of staff all week, all seemed overworked but still friendly. Plenty of parking,

Disappointing experience

Pros: The service was very good.
Cons: The menu presentation needed improvement and was expensive for what was offered
Location: Nice surroundings.
The staff very all very courteous and helpful and the accommodation was acceptable. I was disappointed that one of a pair of rooms opened out onto the car park rather than the garden as I had been led to believe it too was a garden room. I was also concerned that the room was not secure as the patio door was unlocked on arrival. The biggest disappointment was the restaurant where the food was very expensive for what was served and the attention to detail in the presentation was lacking. The service however was attentive and good. Overall things could have been better!

Disorganised breakfast time

Booked & paid for breakfast but when checked in said breakfast wasn't included good job I had a printout from Expedia which stated breakfast included. When we went down for breakfast was informed we weren't on list. Not enough staff in dining room tables not cleared cooked items not replenished no bread for toast & when asked for some got rather an abrupt reply. Mess around the coffee machine spilled milk not cleaned up. When we checked out was told we owed for breakfast!!! Again I had to show my confirmation from Expedia and was asked if they could photocopy this I was made to feel I lying. Not too happy☹️

Lovely quiet hotel

Arrived a little early but was pleased to be told that our room was available and ready if we wanted. Very pleasant staff, lovely room, very quiet. Breakfast was good with lots of choice and as you don't have to check out until noon it saved you feeling rushed in the morning, we used the leisure facilities which were also very good to the extent my husband said the gym was one of the best equipt ones he'd visited within a hotel environment

Great weekend away.

When we first arrived we were disappointed with the room we were allocated due to renovations to some parts of the hotel. However overlooked some parts of the hotel state as the receptionist gave exceptional service in re-allocating and escorting us to another room. This receptionist made our stay at the hotel really enjoyable always pleasant and smiling. Only sorry didn't get the chance to thank her personally....

Sunday night visit to Leeds.

Pros: Seeing it disappear into the rear view mirror of the taxi.
Cons: Closed and refurbished.
Location: Nice location.
This has to be the poorest standard of hotel I had the misfortune to use in almost 30 years of extensive business & personal travel. The attitude of the staff from the first minute I walked into the dirty reception area was unwelcoming and this did not improve whilst I attempted to check in without having to explain the basic fundamentals of customer service to a uber unhelpful and belligerent reception whom had obviously received the basic training from management. Oh yeah, one tip to Mercure....it helps to have staff who are required to interact with customers on a regular basis to have a good grasp of the English language and to be coherent when communicating with customers. The hotel is so far past needing a major refurbishment it's beyond ridiculous and the rooms only required a 26inch old school tv and it would have been 1990 all over again. Re the bar sitting area, one could die in there and unless you were standing at the bar, I'm pretty certain the staff would ignore you.......I arrive at this assumption having spent a total of 2.5hrs (on two separate occasions) in the area and not once did any of the Mercure staff even attempt to ask if they could offer us any form of service........amazing. Anyhow, this review could go on & on, however, needless to say my opinion of the hotel and staff couldn't be much lower and as a regular visitor to Leeds I will never stay at the Mercure, which in my honest option should be labelled as a "transit" hotel.
