You only get what you pay for is not true.
The Discovery Inn couldn't be closer to the center of Leeds, you can see city square and the railways station from most windows. This is what is probably called a budget hotel which gives outstanding value, there is no bar or restaurant. That said my experience with this hotel was extremely good. It is minutes walk from Leeds City Station and within an absolute maximum of five minutes walk from all the shops, bars, culture and entertainment you could wish for. One of the many shopping centers The Trinity is two minutes walk away. As to the lack of a hotel bar the hotel is sandwiched between two pubs and faces two more. One of the next door pubs, The Scarborough Hotel has a history dating back to 1765 becoming a pub in 1826 and having strong ties to the music halls in the 1890's. As to the Discovery Inn not having a restaurant it is surrounded by places to eat, however they do serve a continental breakfast in their ground floor meeting room. All in all my stay was very pleasant: the room was clean and a good size, it had the usual tea and coffee facilities, a trouser press, flat screen TV and free wifi in the room, my bathroom was very large and the staff were very friendly and helpful. There was an ironing room on the third floor which I found more sensible than having a board and an iron in the room. Be warned that the hotel is six floors but the lift only services five if you have a problem with stairs ask not to be put on the top floor. Definitively cheap and very cheerful
