Disappointing customer service

Posted 13-Jan-2018
Pros: Quirky and original layout and decor of the rooms.
Cons: Reception staff
Location: Great location for a night out.
We arrived at 1pm and although check in was 4pm we asked if we could be texted when the room became available. The receptionist was very evasive and said she couldn't text but begrudgingly agreed to ring once the room was ready. We never received a call so returned after 4pm where a new receptionist was abrasive and abrupt. She asked for a compulsory £50 deposit on the mini bar despite the entire contents not adding up to this much. Check out was 11am meaning we actually had less than 19 hours in our room which meant we felt rushed and a bit cheated. On check out I asked the same receptionist who had taken the deposit for the mini bar for my card receipt as we hadn't used anything, however she was very abrupt and said it was nothing to do with her and I would just need to wait for my bank to return the money from holding back into my account. For one night on a pre paid room it seemed extreme. Breakfast was lovely but apart from our table for 2 and a lone diner the breakfast room was empty from 10am onwards meaning the hotel certainly wasn't busy which makes me wonder why we were made to wait until after 4pm to get into our room. Very disappointing especially as I had always wanted to stay here!

Tired hotel

Posted 29-Dec-2017
We had a suite, but not worth the extra money, window cold and draughty, cob webs round window, furniture old and worn bathroom in need of updating. Very shabby and tired looking suite.

Beautiful view of the River Aire

Posted 24-Dec-2017
This charming hotel is perfectly located for those visiting Leeds city centre. A couple of minutes from the busy Leeds night scene and about 5 minutes from Trinity shopping. The rooms are a little older and the carpets a bit worn but I was pleasantly surprised at the general cleanliness and as the title says, my room at least, overlooked the river. The bathroom is clean and there was a wonderful big old fashioned bath tub. I took a long soak, it’s been ages since I have done that. The shower throws plenty of water out. There is a well stocked mini bar, option for breakfast (I didn’t opt for the breakfast so I’m afraid I can’t comment on it), a clothes press as well as all the usual things you would expect. Everyone I met was very friendly and helpful. The only minor down side is there is no parking on site. I parked at Crown Street Parking but there are plenty are lots within a 3-5 minutes walk. I only stayed one night but will be returning if I need to stay in the city.

Characterful place in the centre of Leeds

Posted 24-Dec-2017
Location: It’s in the centre of Leeds. What’s not to do??
I stayed here as a bed for the night after a works Xmas party. It’s in a converted 19th century warehouse right next to the river. Full of character and everything in working order. I had a lovely room on the lower floor. Well worth a stay, and not just for a single night.

Nice place, great breakfast. Very polite service. Easy walk into centre of Leeds, far enough away to not be too noisy.

Some nice original features in the room but the carpet was filthy. The room and en suite in general were old and dated very disappointed

Nice hotel after daughters graduation

Posted 25-Nov-2017
We had stayed at the hotel some years ago and enjoyed our time and this occasion was no different. The room was welcoming and comfortable after a long day. The staff were attentive and responded to our needs and the breakfast is definitely worth a try. I would certainly Stay again and I would recommend it to a friend.

hotel with character in the centre of Leeds

Posted 23-Nov-2017
I was looking for a hotel with a bit of character and 42 The Calls definitely has this. It's in an old mill on the banks of the river and is right in the centre of Leeds. It's an easy 10-minute stroll from the station and a very short walk from many of Leeds' attractions. The staff were helpful and the room comfortable. I was offered a glass of wine on arrival (very welcome). The room had pretty much everything needed, and I appreciated the modest-sized tv, which was appropriate for the surroundings (ie not the huge screens that so many hotels have now). I could have used a flatter pillow - all 4 pillows on the bed were quite chunky and a bit of variety would have been good. I'm not sure how much life is left in the mattress - I could feel the springs in one or two places although overall it was quite comfortable and I had a good sleep on it. I would definitely stay in this hotel again and recommend it to others

Very comfortable night in a clean hotel which has a great feel and is so individually decorated. We lovedthe art the tapas restaurant next door was quite delicious so we were very pleased with the area too
