Nice hotel, but really noisy outside early hours

Posted 05-Aug-2015
Location: Negatives above. We went to a really good little Italian restaurant round the corner - Vivo's, I think. Tapas bar next door looked promising too.
The staff were very efficient and friendly, room was comfortable and reasonably equipped. But it was impossible to get any rest because of the noise across the canal from about 2am until 5. Nothing that the hotel could do about it, but it was very unfortunate and I don't think we would go back. It might have been because there was a parade outside the next day - or it might be normal Saturday noise. I am told the restaurant is excellent.

Centrally positioned.

Pros: Historic building, beautifully refurbished. Welcoming staff.
Cons: Quieter fridge!
Location: Plenty of bars and restaurants less than 100 yards away. Great shopping.
Alround excellent! Highly recommend as you will receive a really warm welcome.

42 The Calls

Posted 18-Jul-2015
Pros: Central location, individual character.
Cons: General decor now showing it's age. Parking facility or local deal.
Location: Breakfast priced for convenience. Coffee bar next door if time pressured or try 'Graze' if not rushed, Calls Lane, 3 mins walk.
Used several times over the years but now showing it's age. Upon return from supper much confusion over room keys - was informed we were in the wrong (lower grade) room and asked to move. Offered bottle of wine in compensation.

Has seen better days

Posted 14-Jul-2015
The hotel really needs a face lift, carpets shabby and worn, even the towels, which are much easier to replace, had seen better days and were fraying at the edges. Lack of any type of air conditioning on a hot summer night ment we had to open the windows and thus had the pleasure of the shouting hen and stag night parties for most of the night. Whilst the hotel obviously has no control over the behaviour of the people in the street the noise in the night doesn't do anything to add to the experience.

Great location

Posted 13-Jul-2015
Pros: Great location & very friendly, efficient staff.
Cons: The hotel rooms are slightly tired now, still OK though.
Location: City Centre Leeds, plus Brasserie 44 next door.
We stayed on Saturday night. Had pre-lash at Browns then on to San Carlo. Great night!

Pros: European style, so a nice change from the typical American chain.
Cons: A little more breeze would be nice since the window didn't open very far.
Location: beautiful location overlooking the River Aire. Also convenient to the Sainsbury grocery store and a nice selection of restaurants.
Wonderful, friendly and helpful staff. Salvatore was especially lovely.

Good location.

Super location for the city and our evening show. Nice room (deluxe double) but Bed too soft for us though so not a great nights sleep. Furniture a bit tired in room too. Good staff, very helpful and accommodating and nice touches made stay good like glass of wine on arrival etc. would recommend.

shopping trip

Posted 26-May-2015 on Hotels
We had an amazing afternoon tea although it was pricey , that was the highlight. The rooms where very hot and the windows do not open very much. The staff were friendly and helpful. The shopping is excellent and the hotel is not far away from the shops and restaurants. The breakfast was nice but again very overpiced for what we actually ate.It was overall a nice stay but I am bot sure I would stay again as I did not like the location, the road was very busy outside and noisy till very late.

Still love it but sadly not quite what it was

Posted 19-May-2015 on Hotels
Stayed here a number of times before and still love the hotel building, location and its ethos. But it feels a bit less special than it has in the past, a little more tired and a little less 'chic'. Bed in my room had its head in an odd sort of box structure (like a pull down bed would have) meaning bedside table had to be moved to be accessed. Towels looking frayed, paint work looking tired, big space in the bottom of the cupboard below the fridge where something once sat but is no longer there, cafetiere but no coffee to put in it... Somehow felt like a lot of the heart that once made 42 The Calls feel special has gone out of it..
