We stayed in a two bedroom apartment with a family of four. The apartment was very nice and comfortable. It is remote from shopping and attractions so taxi and bus are the only transportation options. There are shops and restaurants in the lower level. The washer/dryer is an all-in-one and takes a long time. But it was very nice having laundry available in the room. The room had free wifi and free on demand movies. I would definitely stay there on business again. But for a family, would consider other options closer to shopping or attractions.

Within close proximity to the West Lake and surrounding gardens/hills, this hotel offers an extremely comfortable stay in Hangzhou. Staff were great/friendly, the rooms were fitted out very well and very clean. Would happily stay here again.
The Shangri-La is located next to West Lake, in a quiet location, yet close to everything.
For an extra $30, they upgraded my room to the Horizon Club level...free breakfast and drinks and an extraordinary view of West Lake. Even a private balcony.
The hotel could use a bit of updating, but it was still a great experience.
Best part of this hotel is its location at Tiyuanchang which is a major road running through the City. It is a pleasant 10 minutes walk to West Lake area and the busy shopping and restaurant attractions of Hulin Road, Yan'an Road, Fengqi Road, Tianmushan Road and Jiankang Silk Road and is highly accessible to public transport and taxis.
It is only one bus (no. 28) away from the very impressive Hangzhou Railway Station where the hi speed trains radiate throughout the region (Suzhou, Shanghai, Ningbo, Nanjing, Zhengzhou etc). Tickets for hi speed train rides can be conveniently purchased at Hulin Road. This is also where a VIP shuttle service to the Airport is provided at a ridiculous RMB20. Better yet the shuttle is very clean, exclusive and comfortable.
Cycling around the Lake Area is enjoyable and reasonably priced at RMB10 per hour. Generally, food is reasonably priced and good. A climb up Baoshi Hill is enjoyable with scenic views of the City or the West Lake.
Overall, people here are civil, elegant and pleasant to deal with. Hangzhou is a tourist's delight with a wonderful ambience, numerous attractions, a fine mix of the modern and the ancient. Highly recommended.
We spent three days in Hangzhou at Flower Inn. We booked a "Japanese-style Room". It was the less japanese room I have ever seen in my life. They gave us a very small room on top floor (as hot as an oven) with no elevator. The surroundings were very pretty though, being the Inn inside the woods. Furthermore, the location is not bad at all. It is just ten minutes away from West Lake. The only uncomfortable thing we experienced is that taxis don't know the place (not even showing them the address!) so YOU have to guide them to the hotel. Overall: not bad, ideal if you only spend two or three days in Hangzhou.

Xihu, or West Lake, is the center of Hangzhou. Bordered by temple-scattered mountains, Xihu provides a respite from the fast-paced Chinese lifestyle. Foggy mornings are enjoyed by locals dancing on the river banks and visitors are offered guided boat tours. The area is accessible on foot, and travelers can spend days visiting pagodas and absorbing one of China's most beautiful areas.
