For beach and town
On the beach yet walking distance to downtown, the exterior feels a bit like past glory but the bar/restaurant and rooms are renovated and very comfortable.

Great location
It was nice to be located right on the beach and we appreciated having beach chairs ready for us in our rooms. The seaside rooms had wonderful views. Staff was very friendly. Rooms were clean and comfortable, with historic feel but a little dated. Nice toiletries. Great to have parking right at the hotel. Easy walking distance to many restaurants.

Location and room was great. Bed wasn’t very comfortable. Walls are very thin and can hear all of the neighbors. The staff was also quite unaccommodating.

The hotel is worn down and our suite was decorated with ikea furniture; we paid 214€ for this family suite a night without breakfast. The only good thing is the seaview from the room. You have to pay for parking 12,50€ a day, breakfast 20€ a person which is really expensive and bad and almost no choice in variety; I don’t know why people say this is a superior hotel. Never again for me at this worn down palace.

Great Hotel - Great Stay
After reading mixed reviews, we were hesitant before we arrived. That said, once we arrived and checked in any concerns quickly disappeared. The building is not a purpose built hotel property and once that is understood the rest falls into place. It is Art Deco, high ceilings, large foyer stately home which has lots of history. The staff were welcoming, rooms were large and well equipped with very comfortable beds. Bathroom was substantial and shower did as you wished with good pressure. Breakfast was continental style, good quality and plentiful albeit there was also some hot options inc scrambled/hard boiled eggs and bacon. There was even bubbly ... go help yourself, it didn’t get offered! Location for Ostend is great, short walk or download the app and use one of the many motorised scooters available on the beach front. Only negative is for the cost of the room would have thought that parking would have been free for guests.

Belle Époque by the North Sea
We’ve visited our favourite spot in the Belgian cost, Ostend, several times before, though this was our very first stay at the Thermae Palace and how memorable it was! A big and ancient building by the sea, where the elegance of yesteryears suddenly comes alive, a comfortable and spacious room with an awesome view to the beach, and the lovely Albert Brasserie underneath, with its most delicious food and drink welcoming us during our stay. Friendly and helpful staff for whom nothing was too much to ask and a direct exit to the promenade, where everything happens in this lovely seaside town full of history, also played their part in this sudden wish of no longer staying elsewhere when visiting the Queen of Seaside Resorts.

The rooms were large however there is no air conditioning. The windows open and this allows in mosquitos. This spoilt the trip as I was bitten all over. Reception staff could also be better organised. The breakfast was included in my package and was tasty. However buying it seperate at 20 Euro is very expensive. The hotel needs to be refurbed in general but because of its grand nature it’s nice to be on the beach. It is 2 tram stops away from the station.

Good points-polite staff at check-in.excellent steak in restaurant. Bad points-overpriced 3*hotel, booked superior room which was just a standard room with a view.. The service in the restaurant left a lot to be desired, got ignored most of night to the point where I had to block the head waiters path to pay my bill, we weren't offered refills on our drinks and made to feel unwelcome even though we were paying guests.

Great short break.
The Thermae Palace is from another era. The king of Belgium used to holiday nextdoor. The public spaces are vast and the decoration in the dining room is impressive. We had a seaview room which was also large with an enormous bed. The view is of a wide sandy beach and the sea with sand yachts and kite surfers taking advantage of the long evenings. The bathroom was also large, well provisioned and clean. The fittings are dated. Breakfast was excellent apart from the scrambled egg which no one was eating. It's about 15 minutes walk to the centre of town along the promenade. We found a great Italian restaurant a short way inland. Ostend is a great spot for a short break with plenty to see and do, and only 90 minutes from Calais.

Opulent style on the beach
The TP is old glory in all its splendor. Some chair upholstery is fading and may need repair, carpets are being replaced, old paint is cracking.. And what a charming beauty it is! You will not eat in better surroundings than the Brasserie Albert, you will not sleep in greater comfort than the comfort you will find in its beds, listening to the approaching sea. Spacy, super relaxing, a decent gym, great breakfast.. the Best value for money! Passing by 3, 4 times a year and wish it could be more often. And, to make you enjoy it even more, the staff is super efficient and super nice.

Thermae Palace Hotel review - Sept 9, '17
Our first impression of the hotel was excellent: friendly check-in staff, luxurious lobby, accessible room & great location (room with terrace overlooking the digue & beach). However, a few aspects need improvement. 1) The room needed updates: no available plugs to charge phones/electronics, older bathtub/shower with water going from freezing cold to scorching hot, lacking noise insulation from hallway/lobby & non-working wifi. 2) We paid the supplement for the breakfast buffet (7:30-10am), but when we arrived at 9:15, all the tables were either occupied or not cleared. We finally sat ourselves (the hostess was too busy to seat us) at a dirty table, waiting for the staff. After a few minutes of waiting, I asked an employee refilling buffet trays if she could send someone to clear the table; she answered very abruptly that the staff were on their way. 10 mins later, I asked another employee to send someone, mentioning how long we had been waiting. The table was finally cleared (but not wiped) 5 mins later. By then, we had to rush to fill our plates as trays started not to get refilled. At 10am, trays were taken away. We understand this was a special weekend with the Film Festival, but the breakfast crew was obviously understaffed & under pressure (sometimes bordering on impolite for some). We would recommend the hotel for its location & seaside view (must be booked), but would not have breakfast there again & would hope to see an update on the rooms.

I arrived and couldn't get in the car park because of a local horse race fixture. I went in and asked for a space. I was told if I had booked I would have to park on the road. There was no space on the road for miles. I suggested this was appaling that all the spaces were taken by non residents and they seemed ok with residents having to walk miles with luggage. The manager reluctantly let me park by the bins!! Room and hotel are ok but in a very poor state of repair, but in a great position by the beach. I also had a terrace outside the room, which was great. On second night I wanted to eat in the brasserie, and was told I would have to wait. As the tables came clear I continued to wait, then after an hour the maitre'd tossed a menu at me and told me I would have to order quickly as the kitchen would shut soon. Was not impressed, but the food was ok.

Short Beach Break
A short break in stunning weather. The hotel is in a fantastic position where you step from the hotel onto the beach and a further 10 minute walk puts you into the main restaurant area. The public areas were much better than expected given earlier reviews and the room itself was huge and in a good condition. Generous supply of towels (family room) and prompt efficient housekeeping. Yes there were a few marks on the carpet but generally the condition and cleanliness were good.

Staff exceptionally friendly and welcoming, nice to find coffee and tea making facilities in Belgium. We were here in December so didn't brave it but the beach is just outside the hotel restaurant door. Perhaps half a mile to the town centre, also on a tram route.

Superb view.
This hotel is built on a grand scale and the seaview rooms have a fabulous view over the beach and sea. It is a little way out of town but there are a number of restaurants on the sea front within a few minutes walk and the Coast Tram stop is also just a short walk away.

Not very flexible
Arrived just before 9pm on Thursday night after leaving Amsterdam at 5:30pm. A girl rang me at 8:55 to ask if i was coming. I asked what time the restaurant will close and was told 9pm. I asked if i could pre-order something but couldn't!. Room 140 is opposite an electrical cabinet which buzzed all night and room was so hot it was like a sauna.

Nice sea view and close to tram route, but too many negatives. Wifi signal weak in distant parts of hotel. Unusable in our case. Asked for quiet room, given one with communicating doors, so too aware of people in adjoining room. Breakfast seemed very expensive.
