We had the perfect experience staying at this home. The location is fantastic. The house is charming, clean and just perfect. We absolutely love having a fire in the wood stove or sitting by the fire pit outside. The owners are fantastic, responsive and provide a great rental experience. This is our second time renting this home and look forward to many future visits.

Covered Bridge Festival
We are a group of friends that get together every year for the Covered Bridge Festival. We’ve stay in this house two times now and it always meets our expectations. Beautiful country setting. Great host. We will return.

With this being just across the street from the state park it was everything we wanted it to be. The place is isolated from the neighbors and it is very quiet. There is not a lot of cell phone coverage so plan on disconnecting from the world while you stay there.

Farm house getaway
This house is situated in a wooded private area. You cannot see any other properties from where you are. The house is clean and very homey. If you have elderly people they must be able to deal with some possible difficult areas especially in the bathroom and getting to the outside deck. (A handrail going down the steps on the deck would be great.) Checking light bulbs in the facility to make sure that they are working would be helpful as the inside is somewhat dimly lighted. The beds were comfortable, and the appliances all were in working order (except for the hot tub) There was plenty of dinner ware and cookware. The TV (which was connected to Direct TV) worked well. It was a great experience, and our family enjoyed very much the facility. We would not hesitate to come back.

Relaxing retreat
This property did not disappoint! Beautiful farmhouse on a beautiful property! We enjoyed the fire pit, the hot tub, the screened-in back porch, and the front porch swing the most. We spent so much time enjoying the property that we didn't get to hike at Turkey Run this trip. Planning on returning in the Fall for another stay and more hiking! Definitely recommend waking up early and having a cup of coffee on the back porch while listening to the wildlife waking up around you!

Nice weekend stay
Nice cabin in relatively remote area. The house was easy to find and check in was super easy. Owner was responsive to communication and helpful. House was clean and comfortable, but there were wasps around the back deck area, and gnats in the front yard which made our time outside less comfortable. For those of us with Verizon cell service, cell phone and internet service was fine, just slow. For those with different cell service providers, we had no service or connection at all while at the property. But overall, a nice visit.

We rented this property and the one on the same piece of land. Both were clean and as advertised. Would be nice if there was a path through the woods to get from one to the other. Otherwise we were very satisfied.

Wonderful reunion!
We had a wonderful time at the farmhouse! My sister and her children stayed at the other property close by, it was a great setup for our family reunion in nearby Turkey Run State Park. The hot tub in the screened in porch was a highlight. We can’t wait to come again!

This cute little cabin was the perfect size for 4 women. The hot tub was great! The weather was rainy and cool while we were there so we didn’t get to enjoy the patio or fire pit. The location was wonderful for a quiet girlfriends weekend. The cabin had everything we needed.

We enjoyed our stay. We did lots of hiking and coming back to the house to eat and gather was so convenient. The hot tub was a nice amenity as the weather was unusually cold. Would definitely recommend this place and plan to revisit soon!

Cozy Farmhouse Getaway
This review is for the Cozy Farmhouse across from Shades State Park. We were looking for a nice, quiet getaway, close to Turkey Run and Shades state park, with room for the family and enough amenities to occupy the kids in case the weather didn't cooperate. Sugar Creek Retreat did not disappoint. The house is spacious, comfortable, nicely appointed, with a family friendly open concept. And talk about convenience, there are walking trails to Shades State Park literally across the road, and Turkey Run State Park is a easy 10 minute drive. The screened in porch offered a relaxing environment for evening conversations, and the firepit found us laughing while making smores. The book shelf in the living room is well stocked with games, and the satellite tv was loaded with options. My only negative comment might be that the internet reception could be improved, but hey, this is supposed to be vacation time spent with family. Oh, the homeowner Gabe is an excellent host, quick to respond, and always helpful. If you are looking for a quiet, clean and comfortable getaway, slightly off of the beaten path, this "Cozy Farmhouse", as it is called, may be exactly what you need to destress for a few days.

Very Pleasant Stay
I have my single adult home to visit only once a year. So this was our”Christmas” Very quiet location and no internet. My son and daughters went hiking while I enjoyed my time alone. We grilled at supper time and built a fire and made s’mores.. Loved it!

Peaceful retreat near gorgeous trails!
My husband and I loved our stay at the Sugar Creek Retreat. We enjoy birdwatching so even walking around the property listening to and watching birds was fun to start and end each day. The front and back porches were great for relaxing. Our dog is older but she enjoyed sniffing around, exploring the property. My very minor complaints would be that the couch was a little saggy for my large husband (he's 6'4") which made it a little uncomfortable to sit next to each other but there is other seating. The bed was a little high (but I'm 5'1" so we're an odd size combo). Back to all the great stuff...One night while my husband was cooking, a large number of deer came running across the street into the neighbor's property visible from our front window. They didn't stay long before they ran back into the woods. We hiked at Shades State Park, the Pine Hills Nature Preserve, and Turkey Run State Park and all the trails were stunningly beautiful. The proximity to trails was wonderful from this home. On the trails, we saw a Kingfisher, Pileated and other Woodpeckers, a variety of hawks and at least 3 Bald Eagles. Oh and at night, step outside and listen to the sounds of nature and look up! The stars are amazing! We had a wonderful time and would love to return.

Great house, great location, great hosts!
We had such a wonderful time at this house! It was very clean, comfortable, and had everything we needed for a good stay. Gabe was very responsive and helpful. We came with 5 adults and 2 dogs and had plenty of room. The state parks nearby were very easy to access and had great hiking trails. All in all a great spot and we can’t wait to come back!

Lovely getaway
This property is wonderful. The grounds were great fun for the kids to explore, the proximity to the parks is wonderful, and there are many quiet beautiful places to sit. We loved it. The only criticism I have is that the bunkbed photos and listing that it sleeps 8 is not at all accurate. There is only 1 bunkbed, and the top bunk has no railing which I was not happy about at all. The listing should be updated to be accurate, but otherwise we loved it.

Hello! We have been rebuilding the bunk beds slowly but surely between reservations and have completed the full upgrade. We switched to all metal beds instead of wood for cleanliness. The pics on the site are now 100% accurate.

A/C went out 2nd night. 80 degrees at 8 am inside house. Took all day to get it fixed and went up to 86 degrees inside. Oven didn't appear to be cleaned inside in 3 years. Dishwasher didn't clean the dishes. Outlet in frt and rear porch didn't work. Pullout sofa bed was thin material over springs...not usable. Other beds were comfortable. Quilts were torn and frayed exposing batting. Freezer was dirty inside. Shower had rust in all corners. I expected more based on what the rates were. Was not offered a discount based on A/C failure. I would not recommend.

Spent a lovely Memorial Day weekend here. The farmhouse is spacious (and the screened deck a huge plus for outside enjoyment) with plenty of kitchen utensils (also very helpful). The proximity to the state parks was great, and we really enjoyed the fire pit. We would definitely visit again and would 100% recommend!

Exceptional relaxing getaway
Wonderful experience, from the quick, easy booking to the stay in the home. Gabe was available to answer all our questions and responded quickly. Super home, located in a quite area, next to Shades State Park. We loved hiking right off the property. House was clean, up to date, had all we needed from cable TV to furnished kitchen. Would highly recommend!

We will be back!
We took our family and dog to this cabin and it was everything we needed. The place was super cute and cozy. The kids played in the woods in the back yard for hours each day. We explored the woods on the property as a family and did so much hiking at Shades State Park and PineWood Trail. I was also able to get some trail running in which was amazing! I can't wait to come back and stay longer next time! It was truly one of our favorite relaxing/exploring mini vaca yet!

What a nice place! The farmhouse had everything we needed - spacious inside and outside, nice trail to walk around, the layout of the farmhouse was amazing , front with porch swing, screened in porch in the back, gas grill on the deck, fire pit, stars and moon to stare at night, comfy beds, hot shower, kitchen with everything we needed, cable tv & games in the living room, and located very close to the shades state park and Turkey run. Plus was that we were able to bring our dogs and they got to walk around the property and be with us instead of staying back home. Will definitely stay again and might have to try the other property next time!

We loved the seclusion of the property. It had everything we needed. We did hear a few fireworks and music to the north but it didn’t last over a couple of hours. Great get away
We just finished our long weekend at the farmhouse. The weather wasn't perfect, but the house was. The quiet, serene surroundings were the perfect setting for our sisters' weekend. We enjoyed the fire pit and grill. The screened porch was a great place for dinner. Everything we needed was included in the kitchen, bathrooms, and bedrooms. The living area is very roomy and we had plenty of space for everyone.
