Nice exterior, poor heating in rooms and bad beds

Posted 19-Feb-2017
Pros: Restaurant and staff very nice. Good, not great, location.
Cons: Heat that works, more spacious bathroom, conventional mattresses.
Location: Pleasant neighborhood, near Dupont Circle, a 5 minute walk away.
Looked nice on the internet and cool exterior architecture. Tiny public area/lobby, excellent restaurant. The problem was the room. Very poor forced-air heating system with one tiny vent and thermostat just below it so it did not properly register the room temperature - very cold therefore despite setting it at 80 degrees! The bed felt like sleeping on a slab of clay - I called down to the desk and was told that all bed are Tempur-pedic mattresses and there is no choice to have a conventional mattress. I found it very strange and very hard to sleep on it. The bathroom was tiny and counter space did not exist so I had to balance my shaving kit on the back of the toilet. This was a king-sized room! Overall, despite a fantastic restaurant, the room and ultimately bed has to be comfortable. I will never stay here again nor can I recommend it.

Solid. Not great, but clean and solid. Don't want to add more but this needs to be at least 50 characters. Expedia, change this as folks should be able to include as much or as little detail as they'd like

Excellent location - very friendly staff. Safe neighbourhood. Only challenge - not really in the control of the hotel - parking. Otherwise excellent.

The hallway floors were dirty but thankfully our room was clean. The tv was on a sidewall and not head on from the bed. The cold air was actually shooting out hot air. When leaving our hotel the elevator came to a sudden stop and was stuck on the 4th floor. Thankfully the doors opened but the elevator was stuck.

Overpriced, boutique hotel.

Posted 04-Feb-2017
Pros: Not much.
Cons: Service, WiFi, beds, noise level, amenities for Expedia VIP members, bathrooms.
Location: Quiet street off Dupont Circle.
The Kimpton Carlyle was a huge disappointment. Hotel purports to be an upscale, boutique hotel, but fails to deliver on service. It feels more like a tourist hotel with low-quality service: there is nothing luxurious about it. I am a VIP Expedia member. I was afforded no amenities at the hotel except a free bottle of wine. That did not appear in my room, so I called the front desk. I asked for Chardonnay, but was delivered Riesling. I was placed in a room behind the parking lot, right next to the kitchen of the restaurant. Noises in the parking lot and room service carts clattering woke us up in the wee hours. WiFi was impossible. I was told by various staff there was no code to access WiFi, then I was told there was a code, but they didn't know it. Ultimately, I could never get service. Bathroom had a frosted glass door. It was not soundproof nor did it offer any privacy. The shower had a half-glass door. Impossible to stay warm. Also, water temperature and pressure were terrible. The beds were horrendous. They are advertised at tempurpedic, but if felt more like you were sleeping on a wood board. Long story short, I won't stay here again.

Hello Melissa, Please accept my apologies for various shortcomings you experienced during your visit. Our mattresses are indeed Tempurpedic, and complimentary Wi-Fi is available for our Kimpton frequent stay guests. Regards, Thomas

Comfortable, friendly, great location

Posted 01-Feb-2017
Cons: I wish there had been a coffee maker in the room.
The Carlyle was the best place I've stayed in D.C. so far - and I've stayed at a lot of hotels. It has the friendly, home-away-from-home feel of a smaller boutique hotel, but it's large enough to have the amenities of the larger hotels. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful, the restaurant/bar is wonderful, the rooms are clean, large and so comfortable (Tempurpedic beds). Dupont Circle is just a few blocks away, so there's no shortage of shopping and dining options; and the National Mall is a short walk or cab ride away. I loved it.

Great hotel with a great restaurant

Posted 27-Jan-2017
Pros: Everything.
Cons: The hallways are a bit dingy, but otherwise, it's a great little hotel.
Location: Didn't have time to check out the neighborhood, but my daughters went around the corner to a bar called Rebellion and said it was great.
My friend and I just spent a great weekend at the Carlyle. Had a planes, trains and automobiles day just getting there and, once there, we decided to stay in for the night and to head to the restaurant bar for drinks and dinner. We sat at the bar and were surprised that locals kept coming in and sitting next to us. They told us that the restaurant was great and advised us as to what to order. We did as they suggested and were really glad that we did! The food, drinks and ambiance were terrific! (Spoiler: There's a fishnet-stockinged leg lamp in the window!) Our room was large and comfortable, although somewhat dated. There's a coffee station in the sitting room in the mornings and a happy hour in the late afternoon. Overall, we loved it. It's very close to the Dupont Circle metro station and located in a very nice neighborhood.
