Clean, modern, excellent location

Posted 13-Oct-2016
Pros: Location, cleanliness, modern
Cons: Free food with the AM coffee
Location: many cafes and restaurants of many ethnicities and prices. Several great vegetarian options too. Many stores and shops too. Only 3 blocks to Metro.
This is a totally modern sleek hotel in a great location maybe 3 blocks from DuPont Metro. Free coffee in AM but no food. They do have newspapers of various types with the coffee (great!). Room is large, clean, modern, all white or grey. Bathroom is large and clean, good toiletries, several pillows and nice linens and big towels. There is a safe and a small fridge. Quiet rooms. There are free loaner bikes from the front desk too! MANY restaurants and cafes of all sorts nearby, as well as many third world embassies.

Pros: One person at the front desk
Cons: It had the tightest quarters I have ever stayed in.
Location: Pretty nice location, but I would have liked to have been closure to the attractions.
This hotel has very small rooms, with very uncomfortable beds.

Pros: We enjoyed the location and the comfortable rooms.
Cons: We were surprised by the level of noise in the bar area. Maybe it was a coincidence of the weekend, but the bar was so loud, it wasn't inviting to us.
The hotel was lovely, and conveniently located. The staff were all friendly and courteous. We had a few issues: the cleaning staff didn't arrive to tidy up our room until 4pm our second day. We were back in our room resting and preparing for our evening out by then and didn't want to be interrupted by chambermaid service. Management did call twice to make sure that we did, indeed, decline maid service. The heating unit in our room wasn't functioning the second night of our stay; a portable heater was promptly provided.

Near DuPont circle, lots to do in walking distance

Posted 11-Sep-2016
Near DuPont circle with lots to do in walking distance & quickly served by taxi and uber. The DC attractions are close but not too close... A nice neighborhood, brownstones and better. This is not a strip of "whatever" accommodations. If you drive in - ditch the car, you will spend all your time looking for parking. Maybe the valet has long term options. The room was not a soccer pitch. Compact isn't a fair assessment either. For DC, my double King bed room was just right and well appointed. The whole place was nicely thought out with the four star extras you would expect. Safe & secure, clean and well served, I would suggest this hotel to any great friend with the confidence they will be treated to an excellent experience. Looked in on the dining & bar but had other commitments. Perhaps next time...

Great boutique in Dupont Circle.

The staff at this hotel were so friendly and helpful (answering questions, hailing cabs). Small but great gym in the basement. The room was well stocked with beverages and snacks. The adjoining restaurant (The Riggsby) had excellent food and service. I would definitely return to this lovely hotel.

Nice hotel

Posted 07-Sep-2016
Pros: Location was good for getting around D.C.
Cons: Figure out something else about the safe in the closet (lower it?) because the shelf it is on makes the closet almost useless.
Location: The restaurant is okay; but there are many other fine places to go to in the area. Get out, walk around, and find something interesting.
Overall, we enjoyed ourselves at The Carlyle. The front desk staff, the housekeeping staff, the valets were all great. Most of the staff in The Riggsby (restaurant) were very good, too (though the young host could try not to look quite so bored, it isn't pleasant). The room was tidy, but the furniture arrangement a bit annoying (but given the layout of the room, I guess they didn't have much choice...or were too thrifty to not purchase the same furnishings for each room whether appropriate or not).
