""On the Mall" but a bit off the path, easy walking"
I felt very lucky to find this hotel. This was a splurge. As a single traveler, hotels are prohibitive w/ single supplements and few perks like wifi, breakfast etc. So I want a hotel to be worth the money. Hyatt Place was. On E St SW at 4th, about a 20 min walk to Capitol Hill, easy between L'Enfant Plaza on the Yellow/Green Lines and Federal Centre on the Blue-though the Metro is a Kafkaesque disaster of disorder and misinformation), 30 mins to the first stop of the excellent DC Circulator-National Mall Rte. The room was a relief: clean, spacious, big comfy bed, good amenities (TV, armoire with safe, desk, well-lit, seating area, easy, reliable wifi, modern 3pc (no tub) bathroom with excellent hot water and good pressure (except once in the wee hours of the morning)-everything I could have wanted. The room was energy-smart: sensors adjusting the heat when the rooms are empty. Unfortunately, this is the source of my only real complaint. I was cold: I was there during a crazy cold-snap. 2nd blanket requested. I was able to adjust the heat-but the building's heating system was stupid and LOUD. Sounded like a truck idling in my room everytime the compressor kicked in. Earplugs asked for and received. Really kind maintenance man fixed a rattle and explained the (building-wide) problem, then followed up the next day. Staff, all round were EXCELLENT: hard-working, attentive, especially in the dining room. Breakfasts were a dream, good fuel. Willis at reception-a star.
