Weekend birthday treat

Posted 20-Feb-2017
Pros: Loved the location. Really relaxing. It must be beautiful in the summer.
Cons: General attention to detail by cleaning/maintenance staff Covered walkways between buildings
Location: Stratford upon Avon less than 8 miles a way with lots to see and a huge variety of places to eat. Great base for visiting Cotswolds
The good things:- Really friendly staff especially in bar and restaurant Excellent food - we had breakfast, dinner and bar snacks during our trip Venue set in beautiful countryside Really peaceful - hardly heard a noise from other residents when we were in our room Good comfortable bed, nice size tv, lovely bathroom with good shower Bad/disappointing things :- Little things in room such of taps not being polished, bath mat looked like it had been tossed on side of the bath, not carefully placed Tissues not replaced on 2nd day when box was empty Toilet seat was at a jaunty angle The mat in the bar area outside the ladies toilet was a trip hazard One of the cubicles in the ladies toilet had obviously had the door pushed open with force breaking tiles and doorstop. With this being in a public area I would have thought that this would be repaired promptly or at least a note in the cubicle apologising for the mess and saying a repair had been scheduled. Other comments:- The view of the hotel on the website when we booked was of the lovely old Walton Hall. The hotel was actually a modern collection of buildings. The old Hall was a stunning looking building which I assume is used for conferences and weddings. I liked walking between buildings to get to the bar and restaurant but others with less mobility might find this difficult, especially in wet or icy weather. There wasn't a lift in our building. Only 2 floors but hard work carrying luggage upstairs!

Reasonably priced hotel in our chosen area

Posted 15-Feb-2017
Pros: Well staffed on reception, efficient check in. Clean room.
Cons: Heating in room. Bath towels had seen better days!
Location: Hotel was set in lovely grounds, out on its own so peaceful, but not within walking distance for stroll to village shops, pub etc.
Driving into estate to find reception proved complicated for us, we followed the directions but not knowing the hotel layout we found we were approaching from the rear through the bar( we were not alone in this as later while having a drink in the bar other guests trundled through with bags). Having carried our luggage in we then found our room was some distance away in another wing, lesson learned, find out where your room is before you unload car, especially as we found there was parking on other sites around the hotel closer to accomodation. The room was quite well equipped but a bit cold for our liking and although we tried turning up the heater it did not get any warmer. Disappointingly we did then not use the swimming pool as we hoped to as we found it was not accessible through the hotel but would mean a walk outside, and, as we were feeling cold already it didn't seem very inviting, hence we ended up with a warming drink in the bar! On the positive the staff we encountered were friendly and efficient and we enjoyed a good meal in the bar area.

Nice Hotel with a mix of past & modern times

Posted 26-Jan-2017
Pros: Ditto as above
Lived up to my expectations for country walking and indoor leisure. Room was a nice size and peaceful setting made for decent R & R. Staff were very helpful and friendly in a place that seemed to have many staying and attending conferences etc. Short trip by car to Warwick & Leamington to pursue shopping and other interests. Food and drinks were good but a bit on the pricey side. All in all very satisfied.

Spectacular grounds, mediocre experience

Posted 14-Dec-2016
Our room was spacious, neat and clean. Unfortunately, the bathroom had no barrier to prevent the shower water spreading across the floor. Perhaps the room was intended to be accessible for people with disabilities who may require carer assistance while using the shower. We didn't have time to make use of the spa facilities which may have improved our mediocre experience.

Great base for Stratford & Warwick

Posted 21-Nov-2016 on Hotels
Whilst not a problem for us, the photos are a little misleading...there are some rooms in the hall but actually the main bulk of the hotel is a completely separate modern building so if you want a historic stay then you'll need to pay for the extra upgrade. Beautiful location and great base for a weekend in Stratford, Leamington Spa and Warwick, we didn't use any of the hotel facilities except the pool which was good, quiet when we used it but got the impression from the leftover towels/dressing gowns that it had been busy during the day. The room was perfect for what we needed. One small thing - we arrived in the dark and whilst there are plenty of signs directing you to the car parks they were hard to see and needed some lighting!

Clean and comfortable

Room okay, dinner service not quite polished! Check out slow, appear to have a flawed process for room charging as 2 nod stay where additional charges have appeared on bill at check out.
