Voorburg is an old town with a long history. This makes for some interesting sights. Thanks to its location right next to the city of The Hague, you will have everything you might need during your stay within reach. The old town centre is a protected sight. Make sure to take a stroll through the narrow streets and see some of the old houses.
There are many buildings to see in the town of Voorburg; churches, mansions, and even royal monuments. Take a tour through the city, or plan your own walk (or bike ride?) to see everything. The aptly named Old Church dates from 1200, making it the oldest church building in town. The St. Martins Church was built in the 19th century and is a royal monument. Then there is Huize Swaensteyn, a former tavern that is currently being used as a county hall, as well as a wedding location. In the area, you will also find several country houses.
Speaking about country houses; some of these have been turned into museums. Like Hofwijck, which is now the Huygens Museum; a museum about the life and work of the original inhabitant and his son, Christiaan Huygens. Then there is Museum Swaensteyn, on the other side of the street of Huize Swaensteyn, the county hall. The museum mostly exhibitions work from local artists. If you are visiting Voorburg with children, pay a visit to the petting zoo.
Of course there is also The Hague, the third biggest city in the Netherlands. It has all the facilities you might need; restaurants, theatres, more museums and sights… One of the unique sides of the Dutch city is the beach that is closeby. On a nice day, you could take a long walk on the beach, take a swim or just enjoy the sun.
