A good hotel just outside Volterra. The hotel is a bit old but most rooms do have good views of Tuscany hillside. The pool is excellent too but it's too cold for this time of the year. The hotel itself is not as close to the town as it seems on a map. You need to have a steep climb of over 15 min to reach all the restaurants. The breakfast is subpar even for a hotel of ~€100/night in Italy.

No frill room - almost college dorm room style. Great price though for family of four. Nice outdoor patio for dining and breakfast. Dinner was decent and reasonable. Breakfast was standard Italian (perfectly fine). All the staff I encountered were pleasant.

We had a wonderful stay here. The room was massive, quiet, very well priced, and comfortable. Even though there was no breakfast supplied, just outside across the road was a wonderful little popular cafe where we could get breakfast at very reasonable price.

The front desk staff of this family run establishment is not the most attentive and helpful that I have run into in Italy, but the restaurant food and staff make up for it. The property is rustic but beautiful, the setting is ideal, the vista from the hotel property are magnificent. If you are in the Tuscan country side in vicinity of Volterra you should seriously consider staying a couple of nights at the Albergo Villa Nencini while you explore the local areas vineyards and historic sites.

This was a perfect retreat after a hectic week! I wish I had the time to stay longer, hope to return someday :) Great location right off the square. Cute and very clean room. Felt very safe at the hotel and in the city as a whole. The front desk gal was extremely friendly and helpful. If you are out and about late at night, be sure to bring both keys with you!
This small hotel, converted from a private villa, is just a short (although steep) walk into the town. The rooms are beautifully decorated and have a cozy, authentic, welcoming atmosphere. The owners are so very friendly and helpful with directions and recommendations. There are several good restaurants just inside the town from the villa, so you don't have to walk far to eat well. Our room faced the street, but there was absolutely no street noise thanks to the good windows and shutters. (The rooms in the back of the villa have a better view of the countryside). Breakfast was excellent (like most breakfasts in Italy!) Parking is on-site, but the lot is a bit small and some cars may be blocked in. Volterra itself is absolutely beautiful, and the entire city can be reached by foot from the hotel. During our stay at the villa, there were visitors from all over the world: a good sign.

We stayed here during August and since the hotel doesn't have any air conditioning we had to leave the window open at night to not feel stifled. This wouldn't be a problem except that our window was directly above the hotel restaurant's outdoor seating and there was a long row of motorcycle-only parking spots directly across the street. As a result we were treated to loud talking, dishes clanking, and motorcycles revving about every 20 minutes until the very early hours of the morning with no way to reduce the noise without cutting off our access to fresh air. Needless to say we slept horribly both nights. I would not recommend this hotel if you are planning to come during warm months where opening the window at night would be necessary.
Also one day when we returned to the room after it had been cleaned my friend noticed that someone had gone through her bags. Nothing had been taken, nothing at all. But she is the kind of person who has a set place for everything and she knew that the items in her bag were not where she had left them. It gave us about 10 minutes of panic before we were able to go through everything and make sure that nothing had been taken. Other than that incident the staff were all very professional and helpful.
Set high upon eroded volcanic cliffs, Volterra is an austere walled town with spectacular views. Its well-preserved medieval core is full of historic buildings, but the archaeological finds in the splendid Etruscan Museum date back even further. Also worth a look is the Duomo, with its startling interior of striped walls and gilded ceilings. A flag-hurling competition and a crossbow tournament are regular summer fixtures.
