Pocket Guide: Vierhouten

Vierhouten, a town in the municipality of Nunspeet in the Dutch province of Gelderland, carries the honorary title “Culinary pearl of the Veluwe” due to its welcoming hotels, restaurants and of course the Wilddagen (Wild Days). The name Vierhouten probably refers to the four forests, ‘four woods’, that surround the village: the Vierhouterbos, the Vreebos, the Elspeterbos and Gortelsebos. This is where you can find gnarled trees, shifting sands, heaths, quiet lakes and open spaces. Red deer, roe deer, wild boar, mouflon sheep, badgers and hawks may cross your path here.

You will never be bored in and around Vierhouten, whether you are looking for activities during the day or during the night. From theatre to cinema, from terrace to small pub. Moreover, it is a perfect city to go shopping.

In the reception of hotel-restaurant "De Vossenberg" at the Elspeterbosweg 1, in the village of Vierhouten itself, a small museum is arranged that commemorates this camp and WWII.
