No air conditioning

Posted 21-Aug-2016
It is a beautiful hotel with price to match. It was in the 90s in Victoria when we arrived and I was shocked to find there was no AC in the room only ceiling fans. When I complained the staff gave us some additional fans. However I would never have booked the hotel had I known there was no AC because this was a splurge for us on what we thought was a luxury hotel. The staff said it is only hot a few days in Victoria and that many hotels do not have AC. This may be true but I think guests need to be warned--I would have booked a cheaper place. Other guests were also complaining about the heat in th rooms while we were there.

Peaceful and Comfortable

Posted 19-Aug-2016
Pros: Everything; the room, the bed, the kitchen, the bathroom, etc., etc.. The building is architecturally pleasing. The location is also perfect.
Cons: Faster elevators and a slightly larger exercise room.
Location: I actually like doing things away from the downtown core. However the location is a perfect jumping off point to anywhere in Victoria.
I've stayed at the Oswego Hotel many times before. It has always been clean, comfortable, quiet and the staff have always been friendly and accommodating in every way.

Nice hotel close to the waterfront

Posted 12-Aug-2016
Pros: Very close to the centre of Victoria. Clean and modern, friendly staff.
Cons: Lower price on the wine offered in the room. 18$ for a 375 ml bottle is a bit on the steep side.
Smooth check-in and we were offered an upgrade for 25$/night, which we took. The room we got was on the 7th floor, like a small apartment with all the amenities you might need for a longer stay or if you'd prefer to prepare your own food. Nice, spacious bathroom with shower and tub separate and really comfy robes. The living room was the perfect size. The bed was queen size and comfy as well. Only thing I would have asked for was to have the drawer with the TV in front of the bed, now it was a bit awkwardly placed to the side. The balcony had access both from the bedroom and the living room, overlooking the village. We had brought water with us when we went to bed. the day after when we came back in to our room, the cleaning staff had placed 2 small goblets with water and a mint leaf on either side of the bed and 2 pieces of chocolate on the bed, nice little touch. when asking about "the castle" (the magazines in the room talk about seeing a real castle, which is called Hatley Castle, used in many movies, incl X-Men), you'll be directed to the Craigdarroch Castle by the hotel staff. THIS IS NOT THE SAME ONE.. not worth your time.. 10 min cab ride from the hotel. The one we wanted to get to was 30 min away with cab. but neither the receptionist not the cab driver knew about this place.. we were to short on time to actually get to the real place. But maybe educate your staff if it's featured in the magazines you provide.

Great location. Fantastic staff

Posted 11-Aug-2016
Excellent hotel and would love to stay again. I would ask for a different room location as our patio doors faced the street entry side and there was a lot of noise early in the morning. Rug In our room needed cleaning but was otherwise very clean. Loved the coffee, room stereo, big windows, comfy bed. Great stay!

Very nice hotel. I would highly recommend this hotel. The staff was extremely pleasant and friendly. Great location just a few blocks from the ferry, restaurants and the marina. Next time I visit Victoria, I will stay at The Oswego Hotel.

Excellent hotel but uncomfortable sofa bed

Posted 02-Aug-2016
The room itself (a junior suite with double bedroom and sofa bed in the lounge, room 410) was of a very high quality with wonderful views. It was large and comfortable with a good bathroom and high quality fittings. However, while the main bed was extremely comfortable, the sofa bed had a thin mattress with springs covered with almost no padding. It was very uncomfortable and our son slept very badly. While most of the bathroom fittings were high quality the shower head was not and delivered a poor flow. We upgraded to a 2 room suite (709) so that our son could have a good night's sleep. That was excellent. It seems inconsistent to fit an otherwise excellent room with a poor mattress and shower head. The overall rating would have been "excellent" for everything otherwise.

Thank you for staying with us. Our apologies that you encountered anything less than wonderful whilst staying with us. We are upgrading our sofa bed matresses and have almost completed all replacements in all rooms. The suite you stayed in is also our only suite with a dual bath and shower. All other suites have a separate shower and bathtub. This suite is designed for handicap accessibility. Please let me know directly when your travels bring you back to Victoria and I would very much like to upgrade your next stay. Suzanne Gatrell General Manager

Great hotel with Great Location

Posted 25-Jul-2016
Pros: The smaller size of this hotel and it's easy locations for getting around downtown Victoria.
Cons: I didn't find anything I needed to see improved.
Location: This is located a short two blocks from the Main Street of downtown Victoria. There is the legislative building, Empress Hotel, and ferry are close.
I picked the Oswego Hotel after reading others reviews on Expedia and it did not disappoint! The hotel was Clean and tastefully decorated. Our room was delightful with a nice kitchen included. Bathroom was spacious and sparkling! All of the staff were hospitable and courteous. I highly recommend this great hotel with a great locations!
