35th anniversary getaway

Posted 26-Aug-2015
A coworker recommended this hotel. We found the customer service, bed comfort and overall quality exceeded our expectations. My wife is the litmus test of our hotel experience (I can sleep anywhere) She has a bad back and is VERY PICKY about the bed. Her entire hotel experience hinges on on how comfortable the bed is. She was very pleased. This was the perfect hotel choice for our 35th anniversary getaway :)

Gem of a hotel!

What a great place for the price. One bedroom suites was suitable for families, with kitchen facilities, laundry facilities and a great shop with basic kitchen/cooking necessities. Best of all, it's a very short walk to the harbour, museum, legislature, whale watching etc... Well worth it!

Nice hotel in a great location

Posted 25-Aug-2015
Pros: Room, location, pool, gift shop, staff.
Cons: Hotel restaurant staff could be more friendly and attentive. Food was good but service was hit and miss. Was not very welcoming.
Location: Short walk to downtown harbor, Royal BC Museum, Empress, Miniature World, Bug Zoo, Parliament building, shops and restaurants and more!
We booked a suite and were upgraded to a 1 bedroom at check in (mid-August stay). Nice surprise and quite a big room! Downside was the bed in the bedroom was a double and we had specifically booked the suite for the queen sized bed. Upside is there were two sofa beds instead of one so my 8 and 10 year olds did not need to share. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The rooms are not air conditioned so it got a bit warm early in the day to afternoon but we did not spend a lot of time in the rooms so it was of little consequence. Leaving the windows open cooled the rooms to a comfortable temp. by the evening. The pool and hot tub were well maintained and a good temp. It is a block of the harbor and right down the street from the Parliament building so a very good convenient location for walking to a lot of the attractions in and around the downtown harbor. Our only real complaint was about the restaurant "Jonathan's" in the hotel. Since it was convenient we ate there once for dinner and several times for breakfast. The food was good but the service was hit and miss. One server was great, one was pretty good, but the others were okay at best and one was especially cold and almost made us feel unwelcome (like we were an inconvenience for daring to order food). Sometimes they were very slow despite only having one or two other tables. We're pretty easy to please so this was a bit of a downer to an otherwise great hotel stay.

Convenient location

Posted 23-Aug-2015
Pros: Price and location.
Cons: Can't think of anything to suggest.
Location: Close to downtown, wharf, parliment building, museum, Empress Hotel.
Because this hotel is centrally located it was very easy for us to walk to many of the sights we wanted to visit. The hotel staff is very friendly and knowledgeable and were happy to share information on suggestions for things to do and how to get there.

Very nice older hotel, updated. Close to wharf.

Posted 23-Aug-2015
Pros: Location, comfort, cleanliness, restaurant, staff
Location: The hotel is one block from the wharf area, the beautiful city center with many good restaurants. Close walking distance to shopping, museums, parks.
We enjoyed two nights stay at The Royal Scot. The staff was friendly and efficient. Our room was very clean, the bed was comfortable. The hotel is only one block from the wharf so within easy walking distance from all tourist attractions. We ate two breakfasts in the hotel restaurant and the food was fresh and delicious. We would stay again if we visit Victoria.

Very pleasant. Great location and helpful staff. We were upgraded to a suite which was easily the size of an apartment. It was very homey

Wish I could rate the staff higher than 5

You know how you go somewhere on vacation with a lot of hotels and wonder if you've chosen the very best place? Well, you won't here! We absolutely loved everything about it and tried to figure out how we could move to Victoria and live at the Royal Scot!

This was our second stay here. Location is ideal. On our first visit we had a small kitchen in the room. Second visit we planned to prepare a simple dinner, but the second room didn't have the kitchen or a microwave. Staff graciously heated our meal at front counter, so we were able to eat as planned. We would definitely return, but wait until we see the room before buying groceries.
