Mouse in the house

Posted 29-Aug-2015
The beds sunk to the middle. The refrigerator was old and small. There was a mouse in the room. But I was given a 20% discount upon check out after I alerted the front desk staff about the mouse.

Cheap hotel, close to downtown

Posted 28-Aug-2015
Pros: not much. Good parking but unsecured.
Cons: They could spend some money on the place and tidy it up. Perhaps become a little more service oriented.
Location: Good cafes and restaurants nearby. Close to Chinatown. Panhandling seems to be a thriving industry.
The first room must have been in use by a repair crew. Dirty, all appliances unplugged and not easily accessible. No blankets and excrement in the toilet. Staff did change the room even if it was marked 'ready' and apologized. Next room was much better but noisy and not comfortable. Coffee pot needed emptying and cleaning and the remote didn't work. Garbage hadn't been removed the next day and the coffee pot was still partially full and needed cleaning. The junky shooting up outside the hotel added even more ambience although I realize that there was nothing anyone could do about it. For a similar price, I can get a good B%B or hotel even closer to downtown.

Nice place, nice people, nice environment. Quiet area and very good to enjoy the sunset and also good to hold a small party.

Pros: Location re downtown. But clerk advised not to walk alone after dark.
Cons: Vast investment in restoring building fabric. Strip and repaint. Bathroom units replaced. Management of staff: clear rules, morale, etc.
Location: Downtown Victoria; a few minutes walk to the best daytime restaurants/coffee places, and to all the major tourist sites: Inner harbour, Parliament...
Not rude, but little speaking staff. Check-in and out straightforward. Free parking by door. There was dirt and rust in every corner. Cigarette butts and dirt on balcony. No bedbugs nor other living things. An occasion: the cleaning supervisor, a maid, and a shift manager were having a shouting match in the main lobby during which was heard the supervisor to the maid "I don't care! If someone slept in the bed, it has to be changed with new linens!" To which the maid gave a dissenting unintelligible reply; the manager tried to use a soothing voice and some assuring remark about "If there are not enough linens..." One wonders...

Good Budget Hotel

Posted 24-Aug-2015
Pros: The bed was really comfortable and huge and the room was very spacious. Also we liked the complimentary parking.
Cons: Customer service. If a guest asks for something, try to accommodate. Don't shut down the customers request point blank.
Location: We didn't do anything near by. We just choose the location for the proximity to the highway out of town.
This hotel was a great option for proximity to downtown, affordability and comfort. That said we called ahead 2 hours prior to arriving and ask the front desk clerk if we could check in early (we were attending an out of town wedding and needed somewhere to get dressed). The clerk said no without any attempt to accommodate us and rather patronizingly said "but you can check in at 3 which is only 2 hours from now." I mean if the 3 o'clock check-in was suitable, then it begs the question, why bother asking for an earlier check-in. That experience left a bad taste in my mouth. As a result of the staff inflexibility we had to get dressed for the wedding in a gas station toilet. This just seems highly insulting and unnecessary. A reasonable response would have been for the staff to provide a compromise such as checking in 1 hour rather than 2 hours early. I just feel like customer service is so disappointing now a days. We actually didn't end up checking in until 12 midnight (or I should say my elderly mother did, as I was ill disposed as a member of the wedding party) which means she had to carry our luggage into the room by herself in the middle of the night. I was really upset about that. So in summary - it was a comfortable room but this hotel was not willing to go the extra mile for its guest, not even 1/10 of an extra mile.

Poor service. No housekeeping. Poor amenities . The picture on the website is not the hotel's true representation

Never again

Posted 21-Aug-2015
I would never go to Island travel inn again or recommend it to anyone. Although the staff was very considerate and knowledgeable about the area, it was not as nice as advertised, and there was even a mouse in my room! I am so glad I didn't pay full price. I lf I did, I would have demanded a refund.

Hotel close to downtown

Posted 19-Aug-2015
Pros: Nice king size beds and large room.
Cons: Two things could be improved: (1)Windows that limit the noise from the outside.(2)fridge not next to the bed
Location: Close to the oldest China Town in Victoria, walking distance from the Main Street in Victoria.
Nice big room with comfy king size beds but noisy due to the fridge used a nightstand and the single layered windows that did not reduce the noise from the outside. The hotel is located next to a busy road, close to downtown.

Not so clean.

Posted 18-Aug-2015
Pros: It was in a fairly good location to walk to Chinatown and downtown was only 1 km away. There was also secure parking available. Staff was friendly.
Cons: A bit of updating would not go amiss. It is obvious that the place is old and not particularly maintained well.
Location: It was easy to catch the hop--on/hop-off bus in Chinatown, a short walk to the water and the Public Market was just across the street.
I first noticed that the air conditioner was gasping and when I pulled out the filter it hadn't been cleaned in years. This didn't help the air conditioner work any better and it was a very warm sleepless night. We asked to have it looked at but it wasn't. Later, I found quite a bit of hair in the bathtub. Some other things were cosmetic such as the very old, ratty curtains, the mismatched and wobbly furniture and bedspreads that have been around since the 70's.
