Begin your holiday in Mestre in the heart of the city, Piazza Ferretto. You'll recognise it by its splendid fountain, with a sculpture created in 1998, and by the many cafés that have earned it the nickname "the salon" of Mestre. From here you can admire the 17th century Duomo of San Lorenzo, built over another church that burnt down in the 1500s. In a corner of Piazza Ferretto you'll see the Clock Tower, built in the 12th century, which is the only remaining tower from Mestre's ancient Castelnuovo.
S. Giuliano Park, on the lagoon and covering nearly 700 hectares, is Mestre's green lung. One of Italy's biggest parks, it is loved by locals who go there in summer to do sport, relax and attend numerous events, including the Heineken Jammin' Festival.
Be sure to visit the Mayor's Palace, built in 1466 to house the Mayor and the Captain of Mestre. Today the building houses municipal offices, the mayor's offices and public halls. Art lovers can visit the exhibit at the Candiani Cultural Centre, the Toniolo Theatre and the city's art galleries.
Do you love great cuisine? Then take advantage of the numerous holiday packages to Mestre to follow gastronomic itineraries starting from the city centre to discover the region's culinary specialities, like sweet and sour sardines, and rice with squid ink. Wine connoisseurs will love following the "Stradon del Vin Friularo" (Friuli Wine Road) south to Padua and the "Strade dei vini del Piave" (Piave Wine Roads).
Cultural excursions, nature excursions and food-and-wine tours make a stay in Mestre unforgettable for every visitor.
