The hotel is a short walking distance from the main pedestrian streets and is away from the noisier areas. The room was a good size with a good bathroom. A few small maintenance jobs could be done in the room where a couple of drawers were coming apart. The staff were friendly and generally pleasant, however when we asked about making a call to Indonesia the man at reception said the call could be made from the room and it wasn't expensive. A relatively brief call was charged over 40 euro, so I wouldn't place too much confidence in their ability to provide accurate information and would try to get information elsewhere if I stayed there again. For example, one of the people on reception maintained that you only needed to dial the country code to make an international call and 00 wasn't required.
Hotel is fantastic in all respects: centrally located with marvelous view of harbor of Valletta. Proprietor and staff are very concerned about satisfaction of guests and go out of their way to please. Arrived only to be 'upgraded' to a better room with harbor view. Sufficiently large room for two people with lovely 'in suite' bathroom. We had a balcony which overlooked a small square and harbor. Breakfast was more than sufficient with eggs, bacon and sausage along with various pastries, juices, cereals and various other items. Hotel staff were efficient and concerned. Fantastic hotel for price with staff about which I cannot say enough by way of compliments! Would return in a heart beat.
The Casa Ellul is a great place, very elegantly finished off and in an excellent setting. The room (suite 7) we were in is pretty special. I would add though that there is no comfy sitting indoors as the room itself is so small. The only place to sit is outside on the balcony so if the weather is cold you're basically stuck with your room to sit in.
I felt that attention to detail is lacking for one of the 'World's Finest Hotels', for example; the jacuzzi was really cold for the first two nights, I asked for the temperature to be turned up and it was done so immediately, buth was then way, way too hot and I had to spend most of the last evening trying to eventually get it to a manageable temperature. I believe the staff should have been checking this for us either verbally or popping up to the room in the day and making sure it was set correctly. I asked for Prosecco to be in the room on arrival but I had to phone for it to be delivered. I also asked for separate towels for the jacuzzi but these never materialized. A 'turn-down' service is promised but his only happened on one night out of three. Finally, there was only one bottle of water placed in the room on the first night - I think it would be a great gesture to replace that daily (most 'good' hotels do)!
These, of course, are all minor points and may sound petty but the Casa Ellul is one of the most expensive in Valletta, if not the island, and these small things let down an otheriwse excellent establishment.
They're refurbishing the front of the hotel so you have to enter from the back and the reception is minimal at the moment but the room was huge with a great view and the staff were all extremely friendly and helpful.

Located on a narrow peninsula, little has changed since the Knights of St John built Valletta in the 16th century. It remains one of the world’s finest fortified cities and an architectural masterpiece, home to the majestic Grand Master’s Palace, a magnificent cathedral, national museums and various sites interpreting the city’s rich history.
