Me and my husband stayed here onnour honeymoon and absolutely loved it. Not only the hotel but all of the surroundings.
I had contacted the hotel the day before our visit and hadn't even booked the hotel. They were very quick to reply with all the information i needed as we were travelling without a car.
From the emails prior to booking, the transfers to the hotel, the hotel itself and all the reccomendations on places to see and and things to do this place was amazing. Highly reccomended. They even organised a dinner reservation and transfers to a nearby winery in san gimignamo. Definately worth a visit!
Hotel has a wonderful view, breakfast daily and a very tasty dinner.
This place is a little GEM ontop on the hill!
We will definately return to stay here again.
Hotel was very nice, we had a beautiful view from our room which was quite spacious. We enjoyed a delicious dinner in the hotel and the breakfast was very very good. This is a great spot to stay just outside the city of San Gimignano. Would recommend.
This is a pretty hotel set in a quiet spot in Tuscany, perfect for exploring the area. Very close to Siena, San Gimignano and Florence. The staff are very accommodating and friendly. The free breakfast had plenty on offer, and they were very accommodating to the celiac's in our family. There is a huge pool and plenty of room to relax, even when the hotel was full. The rooms are split into different areas, some rooms closer to the amenities and some farther away. We were close to reception, but it was still quiet.
Excellent service and very clean
The main thing to realize is this hotel is 12 km from San Gimignano if you are planning a stay there. I was disappointed to find I had to drive 34 km round trip each day to my event near the city. And gas is very expensive in Italy (75 USD to fill a tiny Fiat) I drove around the small quaint city of SG for an hour looking for this place and asking people before finally having someone call and find it was another 12 km down the road. Most Italians do not speak English very well but nevertheless they are eager to help..........in Italian with hand motions!.
However, I was treated to a superb breakfast each morning with cappuccino, fresh fruit and pastries, also various shaved meats and an assortment of cheeses and bread. I wish I could have gotten up an hour earlier each day just to enjoy it, but I had to adjust to jet lag and include travel time so some mornings I just had to bag it. What a shame!
The beds could use a mattress pad as mine was a bit stiff, but the room was always clean and the place was spotless. Nestled in a very tiny town called Castillo de San Gimignana.
We had a great holiday based at "the old paper mill", whizzing around Tuscany in Florence (our hired Fiat 500 who did sterling work up and down and around the hills and winding roads). Colle is a good base if you prefer to stay in "real" Italy, and is close enough to the touristy bits (Siena, San Gimignano, Volterra etc) for days out. The hotel staff are great - friendly and helpful, and they didn't laugh at my amateur Italiano! Our room was clean and comfy with a lovely view of the old town.
The River Elsa cuts northwards from its source in the hills west of Siena before joining the Arno. Colle di Val d’Elsa is the main centre along its Sienese upper reaches, noted for its glass industry. Some 95 percent of Italy’s lead crystal hails from here, and the lower town is crammed with shops selling its wares. The upper town is set along a winding ridge, and full of historic interest. Several museums showcase Etruscan and Sienese art.
