Service both good and bad

In general helpful staff, but we were much disappointed that the hotel refused to cancel our second night stay, even while the manager had promised and confirmed over the phone before that this was no problem and that he would shorten our reservation by 1 night. To our big surprise however, the night before our checkout the manager told us he could not and would NOT change our reservation due to a contract he has with the booking company. So he refused to return the 160 euro's of the night we wouldn't stay while we had already booked another hotel 100 km south based on his promise made 2 days before. To their credit they decided to not charge us for dinner, but we left frustrated that they broke their promise to us. Ultimately we ended up paying for their mistake not to check their contract with the booking company.In my world, that's their problem, not ours.
