At around 4pm, having paid for an early check-in, someone entered our room without knocking or making an announcement (the room had a doorbell). I guess they quickly realised their mistake and ran off, as by the time my wife went to see who it was, they were gone. I immediately called reception, who didn't answer the phone (not good!) so I went to the front desk and was told they would investigate urgently, letting me know once they had spoken with staff on our floor. We waited in our room for a couple of hours after and heard nothing, so we decided to have a meal in the bar. We returned to our room later in the evening, but there were no messages on the phone/letter under the door so we were understandably nervous that this would happen again. In my view, this was a pretty serious security issue and one that shouldn't happen in any hotel (let alone at a 5-star). We were most disappointed that nobody even bothered to contact us after this had been reported. I mentioned this to the reception staff at checkout, who were apologetic but did not have any further info to give us - nor did they offer a manager to speak with us. I stay in Hamburg several times a year and from now on, it's the Fraser Suites across the road for me!
