Good for a cheap stop over
Place is clean and good for a 1 star hotel to be fair showers a lil small bug what do you expect for the price worth it a couple nights I did 4 was to many to be honest.

Property clean, cheap and safe. Quiet due to being a weekend. Buildings tired, only one plug socket in the room. Vending machines out of order. Breakfast choice basic. Manageress lovely and very helpful. She spoke excellent English. We would use again as a stopover.

I liked the fact that it was cheap, clean, comfortable and very close to the Ferry Terminal in Cherbourg. I didn't like the attitude of the young female receptionist at all; there was a misunderstanding about the booking. I had personally reserved and payed for two bedrooms. She claimed there was only one room reserved. When I tried to show her the print-out of the reservation confirmation e-mail, which clearly indicated that two rooms had been reserved, she simply ignored it, even saying at one point that if I wasn't happy I could go find another hotel. The misunderstanding was finally cleared up and I and the friend I was travelling with got our two separate rooms. Had the receptionist not been so obdurate the issue could have been resolved almost immediately. I would not stay again in the same hotel for that reason.

Reliable, convenient and comfortable
We needed an overnight stop in Cherbourg. The hotel was easy to get to from the ferry, with the convenience of parking outside your room. Hotel staff were friendly, and breakfast was really good (and good value). An unexpected bonus, on the evening we arrived, was an artisan bakery / café 300 yards away, which served excellent sandwiches and cakes. The only problem to be aware of is if you arrive late: reception closes at 21.00.

You get what you pay for!
Good cheap little hotel with all what we needed. Staff were friendly, room was clean and breakfast was ok. Ideal place for staying over after ferry crossing or before departing. Easy to find although not much open around.

Comfortable overnight stop in basic hotel
This is a simple hotel that gives you what you need for an overnight sleep, shower and breakfast. The lady who runs it, Magali, is delightful and welcoming, and is the reason we would stay again. The 50 "no frills" rooms in a 3 floor block are accessed from external landings. Rooms are simply furnished and crowded with beds, but the beds are comfortable and everything is very clean. Everything works, including shower/toilet, washbasin, plenty of hot water, TV and free WiFi. Sleeps 3 per room.

Within close proximity of the ferry terminal. Late arrival (after 10pm), had to check in using credit card similar to an ATM machine. Small room (2 adults and 1 toddler) but ideal for a stopover for under £30

Very basic room - ok for one night stopover
Very small room with small en-suite. The shower was good, and the bed comfortable, but the pillows were small and uncomfortable. Room clean but in need of refurbishment. Couldn't get the wifi to work. Left early so didn't have breakfast, but at just under 5 euros it seemed reasonable for buffet continental breakfast. Near to good beach. Very convenient for cross-channel ferry.

No Access to hotel complete disaster!
We arrived having prepaid the hotel via Expedia. When we arrived the system which had no attendant as is an automated system did not recognize my name, credit card or any other information so we were locked out. I had to walk in to a hotel and pay again. My cel phone was not working so I could not call anyone or receive any text. The other hotel manager called this hotel and it had someone answer who assured us we would not be charged Unfortunately it appears we were charged anyway for a hotel we could not stay at. This caused us a major problem as we spent three hours driving around looking for a hotel. I am not sure if we can use Expedia as I have no way of receiving a refund. Am I correct? thank you Francis OShea

Cheap and cheerful
We stayed for 1 night in August 2013 and chose this particular hotel due to the very reasonable price and the proximity to the ferry terminal. The room was clean, a bit cramped (the toilet/shower was very snug), but the beds were comfortable enough and we slept well. We had breakfast in the adjoining breakfast room (extra cost) and this was good value.

It took us over two hours to find the hotel as there were no signs anywhere and the sign on the roof was not lit. We went up and down the main road five times and had to end up phoning the hotel and a very nice young man came out to find us and show the way. The main criticism was the bathroom which had less space in it than we have in our touring caravan bathroom. The only saving grace was that the staff were very helpful

Very good value
I was unsure what to expect as it was so cheap, but I was very pleased with the value for money provided. My dogs were made welcome and the room, whilst not big was adequate for an overnight stop. The young lady on reception was helpful and pleasant. Overall, it turned out to be a good choice, and only 5 minutes from the Cherbourg Ferry terminal.

Was fine for what we paid, ideal as a one night stay enroute. Room very basic, had to clean dirty light switches and toilet door plus handles, very grubby, toilet and wash bowl in differant areas!! Under sheet on mattress not changed . Breakfast room spotless, very limited food selection, no cheese, ham, eggs etc,

Excellent hotel for overnight stop before the ferry. Liked the connecting room system which would be great for families or like us two single travellers. Was also cheap enough for us to have a room each rather than share. Downside is nowhere to eat within walking distance.

Difficult to find as we had not been notified hotel had changed name from Bonsai the name when we booked. Good value & clean, pleasant continental breakfast. Small gripe insufficient room for WC seat lid to stay upright due to compactness of cubicle

Small but did the job
While it wasn't either the largest hotel room or the most luxurious I have ever stayed, the Bonsai Hotel did the job for my wife, myself, our adult daughter and her dog. Yes, we would use it again.
