Forss House Hotel is located a few miles west of Thurso at Bridge of Forss on the A836. Excellent riverside location with well kept garden areas and ample car parking.
A very friendly and entertaining welcome upon arrival, and the rooms were spotless, with good facilities in a country house style.
The evening dinner was absolutely superb. A new recently appointed chef did an outstanding job.
Breakfast was also first class.
Arrived around 6.30pm after a long drive from Aberdeen and was quickly into my room. Down to the in-house restaurant for an evening meal that was okay if a little pricey. Food was nice and requested Gluten free options which were available. Staff asked if I wanted Gluten free bread for toast in the morning which was a nice change from other hotels!
Room was comfortable although had difficulty in getting a consistent temperature and found the bed either too warm or too cold (strangely enough) so didn't sleep too well. No complaints about the bed itself and the room was clean and spacious with free wi-fi if required. Suspect the temperature issue was probably just me not adjusting the radiator properly.
Breakfast was off to a slow start with there being no staff around to speak to about where to sit and the ordering process. Had to go to the reception to attract someone's attention. Once a member of staff appeared had to point out that there were no bowls for the cereal but they were promptly made available.
Food was good with the cold/cereal choice being ample and the hot offerings also good.
Location-wise the hotel is easily found (just opposite the Tesco store).
Overall a pleasant enough hotel although the staff could be a little more attentive (stood at the restaurant/bar for a good 5 minutes waiting to be served whilst several staff members came and went) and had to specifically "grab" someone to order my evening meal/drink.
