The hotel is very outdated & needs a refurb, the fixtures in the bathrooms & also in the communal areas look rather old. the property & amenities including coffee shop, bars, pools etc look tired, dull & boring. This should be rated as a three rather than five star. There was a party on the communal area which was very loud, which is not what I signed up for when I booked a weekend away. The food was average.

Started off bad. We got a room in the old quarters. The room was dirty. Shower snd electric sockets didn't work. The whole room required modernisation. We complained and got transferred to newer quarters . Not a five star for sure. The new years party was a hit

Great Location. If you get a sea facing room, you will sleep with the sound of waves. The property is dated, expect the room, furniture, lamps and everything to be very used looking. They are due for refurbishing.

Nice and Friendly place to stay
We only stayed for one day, but it was a wonderful stay. Staff are amazingly friendly and helpful. Food is good and breakfast spread was decent. Though priced a little high, it was still worth it.

The staff and the service provided was excellent. Ideal location and rightly priced. The television and electric outlet options for charging are limited and could be improved. Upgrading of the facilities would add value. Overall our experience was excellent and highly recommend this place to friends and family.

Do not stay here. Do not book ocean view.
Booked an OCEAN VIEW room and what we got was a PARTIAL SEA VIEW from outside on the balcony. The room itself is nothing better than a normal hotel room you find inside the city, had a weird smell and was dingy and dark. Our AC was not working and the service was extremely slow. Breakfast buffet was below average. Literally checkout early as we didn’t want to be there anymore. Please don’t visit this space and especially do not book an ocean view. Totally DISAPPOINTING!

Not worth the price in covid times
The property itself is beautiful and it's an easy walk to the main beaches. Breakfast staff in particular were friendly and helpful. Since it's covid, there are quite a few restrictions such as two of the pools being closed and a rather annoying check-in procedure. Overall the hotel is fine, but 8000+/night is just too much money for what you get.

A mixed bag
There is much that I like about this hotel. A nice sized swimming pool and good ayervedic spa. Downsides include the poor beach front; the noise from the various parties/conferences held at the hotel and unfortunate smells coming from the toilets. They could improve things.

Very nice location with great landscape. Our second floor room was facing Arabian Sea. Enjoyed the sound of waves and the foam sitting in the front balcony of our room. Liked the services of Travel desk. The rooms need upgrading particularly the bath rooms.

It is not at all worth for money. Very old rooms with poor door handles and low cleanliness. Charging like super 5 star Food is very ugly. Not of any quality. More than that, my son in law told me that UDS, very careful about food poisoning. It was true and my grand children of 1.5 years old caught vomiting and desentry. Then my elder daughter, then my son then my daughter in law. My son was a vegetarian. He also been affected. Luckly myself and my wife escaped Horrible horrible horrible

An Overpriced Hotel
I would rate it as not as per expectations for a four star property. While I booked an Ocean View Room the room initially allotted to me had a partial view of ocean and for that too one had to go out to the balcony. The room had afoul smell and I requested for a change which was promptly attended too but the room given had only little view of the ocean from the balcony. The next day, however, I was allotted an Ocean View room after a request again. The restaurant was very crowded and the quality was food was also just Ok. The staff, however, were courteous and helpful.

UDS CHARM
I really love Kovalam and when I think Kovalam I think Uday Samudra. I love the facilities esp the pool on my doorstep, the ayurveda, dentist and spa. The breakfasts are hearty and the staff go out of their way to make one feel at home. The beach and sound of the crashing waves make one feel close to nature as well as the golden drops of sunset. Will always go back.

This hotel's value prop seems to be that "we are here as the last resort after all the decent hotels have filled up, and due to that, we will squeeze the last drop of your wallet out of you, but care two hoots about quality" The only good thing about this place was, it was a hop, skip and jump away from the beach. That is the only thing good about it. the location. The rooms: They are terrible. We booked 2 rooms, top end rates. The room had a small living room (decent), and the main bedroom adjacent to it ( double), and an Attached loo/bath. While the rooms are old, has a bit of a dinghy smell, the worst was the bathroom. Old fittings, leaky taps, and the worst was the pot. (Commode). i've checked this in both rooms. You need to flush at least 2 full flushes (thats at least 30 litres of water down the drain, literally) to return the pot to a usable condition. I felt it was very unhygienic. Food: The buffet is average - lunch. The in-room dining order was excellent (dinner). There was no breakfast included in our top end rate( which is why i said they squeeze every drop of your wallet - no value for money whatsoever). Staff: Cannot complain.They are trying to do their best, but the infrastructure is just not updated. Peak season, the flaws show up like an open festering wound. We stayed only for one night, and glad the nightmare was over quickly. This place seriously needs a modern makeover, need to stop fleecing tourists with average infrastructure befitting a 2star!

We visited Kerala in Feb 2018 and stayed in this hotel. I wonder how this hotel can be rated a 5 star. We had horrendous experience: 1. Check-in Experience was awful, had to wait hours. 2. The rooms to be extremely dirty and unhygienic; they didn't change the room despite multiple requests. 3. The room and bathroom stunk like a sewer the whole time. When complained the hotel staff said that ‘they have closed the door to the sewer’. Unfortunately, we had no choice at the time because we couldn’t find any other nice hotel in the area, all were sold out and had to spend time in this dumpster. 4. Bedsheets and pillow cases smelled like it was never changed since the previous guest left. 5. We asked the front desk after checking to change the room. We were assured that he will change it and move our luggage into the new room. However, when we got back at night it was not changed. Finally, after multiple requests, they gave us a different room the early next morning because we could not sleep in the nasty smell. They gave us a smaller room with two beds with the assurance they will give us a better room soon, which they didn't even after asking them multiple times. Then we gave up on them because we couldn’t afford to waste more time. Our whole experience was ruined. 6. Dining Experience: staff was very rude, and the service was poor. 7. Check out Experience: not great, they didn’t care how the guests felt during the stay. I give 0/negative star and won't recommend this hotel.

A good ocean view hotel without an usable beach.
Enjoyed our staying at the property. Staff in general were courteous. We would like to acknowledge the courteousness of Srabani and Vidya in the dining facility area and Syad in the room service department. They made our stay enjoyable. Suggestions: rooms need to be renovated and hallway must have better and brighter lighting system.

We stayed for a night for our anniversary. The staff was very polite and helping especially Miss Ancy at the reception. She made us feel at home. Main highlight of the resort was the greenery and how well they have maintained it. Lots of flowering plants, lots of place to walk. They have maintained the place in such a way that it doesn't look artificial. View from the ocean view room was just spectacular! The rooms were comfortable with good bathroom. No tubs in ocean view rooms. They have 3 well maintained pools, a steam and sauna, massage parlor, gym, 24 hour coffee shop. The walk on the beach was beautiful and relaxing. Breakfast buffet was awesome with South Indian, North Indian and western cuisines. Dinner buffet was not up to the mark. Ala carte lunch was good. Overall we had a great time, very relaxing and detached from our busy routine. We will definitely recommend to anyone who ask us.

No direct access to beach but good hotel to stay
I was in a visit for Business and Pleasure near the beach during the peak tourist season. Unfortunately, the beach is not there due to the big see wall. So, location is not ideal and need to travel by car to reach to the beach where I can relax. The food in the cafeteria was very local Indian food, which was spicier for me. The service was good. The lobby and the area where the kids can play was good as it was inside the hotel itself. There was not much shops nearby, so I have to travel 1 miles to buy things. Overall a different experience and of course I love this Green city.

This is not a 5 star hotel by a long way not sure how this has got this rating but it is definitely false advertising and overpriced the rooms are falling apart and outdated by the looks of things no maintance has been done for a long time. The beach is a 10min walk past heaps of rubbish dumped along the route disappointing.

Simply do not go here
This hotel is dirty, unhygienic, noisy and ridiculously over priced. The staff are poorly trained and if you book to stay do not pay upfront because you will be seriously disappointed and wont get a refund or easily find an alternative in the local area. Any food you buy there risks an upset stomach and the prices are over 3 times what you pay at the far superior local restaurants. We left as soon as we could and found far better accommodation in Trivandrum nearby. They claim to be either 5 star or 4 star depending onwhich site you book through, in reality it is a poor 2 star Kerala generally is a pretty grim place and shows much of the worst of India, so expect to be ripped off at every turn so be wary. We felt sorry for the people who had booked into this place for a special occasion or as a once in a lifetime no expense spared anniversary, we were lucky as we had stayed in Rajastan at a superb and reasonably priced hotel so we know India can do it right. But beware in Agra and Delhi as they can be equally bad and difficult to change if you have payed upfront. Most hotels seem to lie about their ratings and will all attempt to rip off foreign tourists.

overall a good stay but some minus points
plesant stay in this good value hotel with a nice range of facilities. staff service is good. some rooms are nicely appointed but many which face the pool and sea are very noisy=many groups visit the hotel. minus side is the hotels love for noise=loud music at breakfast for example. ayervedic spa is really good
