Costa Daurada Attractions

Stretching the length of the province of Tarragona, to the south of Barcelona, the Costa Daurada offers sun, sea and a fantastic choice of beaches. Less well-known than some of Spain’s longer coastlines, this developed run of beaches offers a choice of watersports, a selection of characterful towns and villages and a great range of restaurants. Outdoor pursuits like cycling, hiking and mountain biking can be found just inland from the coast, while the region also offers golf, water parks and fiestas.

Tarragona – The principal city of the Costa Daurada, Tarragona is packed full of historic sites including Roman walls, an amphitheatre, and an ancient forum. Explore its cultural sights, sample some local cuisine or visit Tarragona during one of its many festivals to experience authentic Catalan culture.

Salou – A landscaped promenade, string of rocky coves and beaches and wide selection of sports and activities make Salou a great destination for a day out. Volleyball, football, tennis and golf are all available at the resort, while visitors looking for a more laid back experience will find plenty of space to relax and unwind on the expansive beach.

L'Ametlla de Mar – A traditional Catalan fishing village, L'Ametlla de Mar still has a fleet of vessels moored in its pretty harbour. The resort’s beaches and restaurants are well worth a visit during your time in the region, while the town also holds a number of vibrant festivals throughout the year.

Sitges – One of the prettiest resorts on the Costa Daurada, Sitges is known for its beautiful beach lively nightlife and for being especially LGBT-friendly. A great destination for a night out or a day of culture, Sitges has a lot to offer.

Things to See in Costa Daurada

With its famous Roman ruins and characterful city centre, Tarragona is home to the majority of the Costa Daurada’s sights. Explore the city’s ancient walls, aqueduct and amphitheatre, visit its 12th century cathedral and see some of the many ornate convents, churches and monasteries that dot the city. Sitges is home to a number of sights including the monument to El Greco, the Museu Cau Ferrat and the churches of Sant Bartomeu and Santa Tecla. A stroll along Salou’s landscaped waterfront promenade is a must and the 12th century Miravet Castle near Ginestar is also well worth a visit.

Inland you can go hiking, trekking, cycling and climbing, while Tarragona and Sitges are great for shopping, dining, sightseeing and culture. The festivals that take place along the Costa Daurada throughout the year offer a great glimpse into local culture, so make sure you attend an event if there’s one happening near you.
