The second biggest city in New York State was a major industrial centre in the 19th and early 20th Centuries. But after the inevitable post-industrial decline, Buffalo has embraced the challenge of renewal and is now an artistic mecca. Architects have made Buffalo their playground, creating some extraordinary buildings. The city is on the eastern side of Lake Erie, across the border from Canada, and its revitalised waterside area is a major draw for residents and visitors who have come to see the amazing power of Niagara.
