Interesting 500 year old property with a fascinating collection of 'object d'art'. Comfortable room. The Landlady couldn't have been more helpful-even giving us directions to get home avoiding the roadworks!
Friendly hotel situated about 2 miles from the centre of Taunton in the village of Bishops Hull. The owners and staff were very friendly and accommodating. Purpose of visit was to watch cricket in Taunton which was around 35 minutes walk from hotel.
Quiet spot on edge of Taunton. Would happily stay again, breakfast was nice. Very popular with wakes it seems so you may be off put if you don't like funerals!
We didn't stay very long as we really only needed a bed for the night. on arrival our host was most welcoming. We would liked to have had more time to talk to him. He seemed a very interesting man.
We were staying two nights and had hoped to eat at hotel at least one. First night we were told we couldn't as we hadn't booked food ahead. Asked if we could book food for second night and were told that owners had colds so wouldn't be serving dinner!
Breakfast was fine and plentiful, although I don't really understand why the men in our party were served extra of everything.
Room was comfortable and spotlessly clean.
A one night leisure stay for a visit to Taunton. Very characterful hotel as was bedroom. A nice large TV in room and no problems with WiFI. An excellent breakfast provided after a very restful night's sleep - no outside noise. Pleasant, friendly staff.
Lovely hotel, nice helpful staff. Everything you needed in the room.

We were the only hotel guests that wante dinner and the owner offered to make us dinner at 7.30 pm, as we had been working since 5 am we chose to go to the nearest other pub, a 20 minute walk away, the breakfast , however was good
Do not stay at this hotel unless you want a thoroughly miserable experience. The proprietors are clearly in the wrong industry - where an orientation to service and politeness are a prerequisite. Our experience was bleak from the moment we checked in - and had there been another hotel nearby we would have checked out and gone there straight away.
The house is beautiful. The room is extensively decorated and well-equipped. The lady and her three little dogs are highly welcoming. The breakfast is rich and pleasantly served.
It is originally a private house. Thus, there are stairs, with no elevator. FYI.
The Wifi in the room is functional for text communication. Less so for speaking (e.g., over Skype). It is stronger outside the room.
I stayed for only one night on a business trip and would definitely stay again. The check in process was very relaxed with the lady (not a receptionist as she cooked our excellent breakfast as well) very helpful and friendly. The rooms are very cosy and if you like charm and character then you're in for a treat! Good parking and pleasant patio/garden area behind the hotel make this an ideal place to stay to use as a base for touring the West Country.

Character hotel with excellent service
Very friendly staff and room was fine. I really good breakfast and useful travel advice was provided.
Comfortable relaxing place run by caring family and excellent chef. Bedroom furnishings require some updating but modern bathroom with all mod cons. Lovely dinner and enormous breakfast. Felt the place was being run for the enjoyment of its guests rather than, as our previous night, solely for the profit of the owners.
One night stay did everything it said on the tin. Dinner was excellent as was the breakfast. Nothing was too much trouble. Would quite happily stay again.
Stayed here as I was on business. Room was lovely and clean with lots of cushions/pillows to choose from, service was good and for those who like a drop of earl Grey tea then your needs are catered for.
The hotel had lots of character with well chosen furniture. Staircase, ceiling height and sloping floors showed age of the building.
Excellent breakfast.
You cannot get better quality than a family owned and run hotel.

Difficult to get whilst roadworks in place. Nice room with good breakfast
Booked for my sons wedding night as they had family staying in their house in Taunton and I wanted them to have time to themselves after such and busy memorable day. They were impressed with everything, lovley room fantastic breakfast. The Meryan owners/Manager was very helpful beforehand checking room requirements and we were able to arrange to drop my sons car off very eaqrly morning of the wedding so it was ready for them on the Sunday morning.
A treasure of old world comfort and style very different to modern hotels and all the sameness.Owners and staff very friendly and helpful nothing is too much trouble.
